Hammers outcast Edson Alvarez was ‘exiled’ by Graham Potter in the summer, on a long loan to Turkish side Fenerbahce.
He is unlikely to return this winter ,despite reports to the contrary as silly season ramps up as January beckons.
His season loan to Fenerbahce does not include a recall option so unless both sides agree to terminate the loan by mutual consent (as happened last winter with James Ward-Prowse) there is no unilateral option for West Ham.
Álvarez’s wages of £115,000 per week are being picked up in full by the Turkish club plus an unspecified loan fee.
The loan deal includes a non-mandatory option to make the transfer permanent next summer, with the potential purchase clause set at around €22 million (£19m)
A transfer source speaking exclusively to Claret and Hugh this morning confirmed there is no option by saying: “There is no recall, just more transfer bull*hit”
In August 2023 Ajax confirmed the initial €38 million (£33m) transfer fee, potentially rising to €41 million (£35.7m) with add-ons for Alvarez.
Alvarez has made 13 appearances for Fenerbahce since August picking up six yellow cards in the Turkish Super Lig.
Completely agree Jimbo !
Alvarez will be on the books at about £14m come May.
He will have also brought in a loan fee that can be deducted from that, a plausible loan fee would be 2 or 3 million.
Puts his value to us at about £11.5m come May.
He should make that money easily so no sweat about a financial loss.
But all the time he’s not been here performing is a situational detriment, too many of the players we buy do not perform causing us situational detriments is part of the reason why we’re looking relegation favourites.
Have we forgotten what a liability this guy was? Sooner he leaves permanently the better. No pace, no end product and no timing in the tackle. Another £30m sprayed up against the wall I’m afraid.
Why would a Mexican captain good player want to come back to us
