West Ham have decided not to pursue the free transfer of John Egan following his trial with the club.
The former Sheffield central defender is available on a free transfer after being released by the Yorkshire club last season. He was given an opportunity to impress Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui in a behind-closed-doors match at Rush Green against Dagenham & Redbridge, where it is understood he played one half of the game.
The news was broken by ExWHUEmployee, and it can be assumed that the trialist didn’t do enough to impress during the 5-0 win against the Daggers.
It now seems the club has decided against offering Egan a contract until the end of the season. The 31-year-old Irishman was a last-ditch attempt by West Ham to bolster their squad after failing to sign German international defender Mats Hummels, who opted to move to Serie A.
Well we need a Striker now, any freebies available since our 31 year old Senior Striker has probably finished career @ Westham before it began.
Just as well, really.
Correct decision, if the need arose which it may well not you’d play Alvarez ahead of Egan every time.
Revisit the issue in the Winter window.
