West Ham’s chances of signing Liverpool starlet Harvey Elliott appear to be, unsurprisingly, withering on the vine.
Let’s be honest—very few of us truly believed the Hammers had a real shot at signing the standout player from England’s European Under-21 Championship-winning side. It always felt more likely that West Ham would end up with the less illustrious of the two available Anfield youngsters: Tyler Morton.
However, breaking reports earlier today suggest that West Ham are now facing a transfer tug-of-war between Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest for Elliott’s signature—delivering what feels like the knockout blow.
At £40 million, the former Fulham academy wonderkid was always going to be on the pricey side for Graham Potter’s limited summer budget.
Club sources have consistently maintained that West Ham never stood more than a slim chance of landing the player. Hopefully, that means alternative targets have already been identified—and ideally, already approached.
Because with Lucas Paquetá’s future still as uncertain as it’s ever been, West Ham’s need for a creative midfielder who can unlock defences and provide ammunition for the forwards is becoming increasingly urgent.
Let’s move on, no one believed this would happen, same with Luiz, Jashari and god knows how many others, had we kept Steidten who knows he was able to get deals for players we didn’t think it was possible too.
This Onyedika guy doesn’t look upto it either or Morton if Fernandes is doable he is worth a shot, have to hope Kante who we signed last season is good to fill the CDM role because our other targets are pie in the sky.
Our biggest needs are cover at right back, why haven’t we signed Martinez if he has a £14m buyout clause ? Cover on the left wing, a goalkeeper and a centre forward with pace
Agree with Brooking Header, this club is staring at the Abyss and unless there is a serious change at board level and we get someone in who knows how to run this football club, West Ham are finished.
At the moment it would appear if ANY other club are interested in the same player as us, we’re out the door. It’s absolutely pathetic.
I’ll give it seven games into the new season before the fans really kick off.
I know you use that word wonderkid a lot Gonzo but this kid is the real deal.
He’s young, talented and English and worth every penny of 40 million.
Apparently we had 57 million for dhuran in January?
Can claret and hugh stop reporting on fanticle signings who we have no chance of getting.
Why anger and frustrated the fan base more by reporting these stories. There was one on a defender yesterday who Inter Milan want and have nearly signed.
What was the point in that story when c&h haven’t really mentioned the fella before and the deal with inter is nearly done.
This isn’t aimed at you personally mate, your my favourite reporter but these for reaching targets just frustrated the whole.fan base we’ve all had enough, we need some positivity from somewhere because its certainly not coming from the top of the club or from our transfer business so far
“Fanticle”? Look we report what other outlets publish. Some good, some bad, we try and avoid the rubbish ones. None of us want to miss the early report of a deal that comes together. I got absolutely slaughtered by C and H readers last summer for writing about the potential £40 million Max Kilman deal. There are dozens of names linked every day so sometimes we’ll tell you where the news comes from and leave you to decide.
Hello mate, don’t worry, I didn’t take it personally.
If I’m honest, I thought the Elliott deal was unlikely two weeks ago and even the club were playing down their chances of signing him.
Personally, I think we probably tried to get him on loan or something like that because we were never going to be able to afford £40m.
Anyway, the story will fizzle out eventually but I’d love to be writing something more positive. Hopefully we’ll sign Fernandez from Saints and have something to get excited about after the friendly on Saturday.
The 3rd richest board in the Premier league apparently.. wait until the season starts there going to get both barrells off the supporters. Apathy has given way to anger .
Yeah, this was always fanciful. Morton looks a good shout and has something about him.
Isn’t it worrying that Villa & Forest are ahead of us now. We should be on par but run like a Sunday pub team.
We could never afford him. Price was made public last week and that ended any chance we might have had.
Doom and gloom on all fronts.
Still no nearer getting a proper established striker.
