The ’emergency loan’ window opened this morning and is not due to close until November 25th, with clubs then unable to add to their squads until the January window opens in the new year. Only Football League clubs can take advantage of the window but they can loan players from Premier League clubs. No overseas players can be brought in by Football league clubs during this period.
The loan deals can last between 28 days and 93 days. Should clubs agree a three-month deal, it will tie a player down until the New Year and the January window.
Should any side in all four divisions suffer a goalkeeping crisis, they can bring in a short-term, normally seven-days, replacement and that includes the Premier League.
Players without contracts at a club such Kevin Nolan, Carlton Cole and Guy Demel can move anytime they want and have no restriction.
Slaven Bilic is likely to use this window to give some of West Ham’s promising youngsters some competitive experience. This could be the last Emergency loan window as FIFA looks to abolish the practise.
