Reports are widespread this afternoon confirming what we’ve been suggesting for weeks: Tim Steidten’s employ at West Ham is ended. The technical director has been sidelined in recent weeks as first David Sullivan and more recently vice chair Karren Brady reportedly took up the reins of the clubs transfer activity.
Steitden’s demise has been reported from multiple sources- The Athletic – David Ormstein being the most recent in their article: “West Ham technical director Tim Steidten set to leave club” confirming that just the terms of the German’s exit are yet to be completed. Steidten’s fractious relationship with two previous head coaches, Lopetegui and Moyes, caused him to be banned from the dressing room by both. But ultimately it was the failure of West Ham’s summer transfer strategy which became the millstone around his neck.
Niclas Fullkrug’s career flat line at London Stadium combined with the millions blown on Guilherme probably did for him. West Ham created a squad under his control that cost £140 million yet still shipped more goals than any other Premier League club in 2024 and famously had the ‘midfield that could not run and the defence that could not defend’. Once Graham Potter came on board and brought his own transfer analyst Kyle Macaulay, then Steidten became marginalised – as I put it -a ‘Director without portfolio’.
It remains to be seen whether Potter will be reunited at West Ham with his former Sporting Director from Brighton and Hove Albion Dan Ashworth, who left Manchester United in December.
Obviously Potter wants to work with his own man that he trusts. As did Moyes but Moyes was given no choice. Looks like Potter is being given the choice to have his own man. Maybe it was part of the deal terms for him to come and manage our club.
Again you spread rumours fuelled by your obvious biased views, we will probably end up doing the same to mcauley when he has to deal with a shoestring budget that’s nowhere near the 323 million spent by him and potter at Chelsea before potter was sacked, steidten had a small budget to obtain 9 players , which turned out to be a pretty tall order, ?
Not happy about this. Sullivan needs to step back and let football people do the football things.
And so the deranged decisions go on and on. We will never achieve our potential while Sullivan calls the shots, he’s like a curse on all our houses.
We have one owner who’s like a delinquent kid with a playstation and another whose investment is so small with comparison to his others that he takes nigh on no personal interest. We suffer the madness.
We didnt fail at modernising, our leader / owner didnt want anything to change.
Tim was/is only ever a super searcher. Any player, any club. Glorified scout. Easy job these days. Not too many make continuing success in this line of work. Tim has for a couple of years.
Freelance work. Never a DoF.
Good luck Tim.
Bring on the reality football at West Ham. COYI
TS was described in these columns a couple of weeks back as behaving like ‘lord of the manor’ as he showed Potter around Rush Green in a low key, friendly way. Unfair and disrespectful. He did a phenomenal job at Levekusen. Why on earth would he want to stay? He belongs with a Champions League club. Nice try by Kretisnsky but the club’s not ready yet for that level of ambition.
It seems as we have had a coup at the top of the club. You can almost imagine Sullivan rubbing his hands, and cackling, while all his agent mates and fat Kazza shout “Lubby Dubbly!” I truly shudder and despise the low life scumbags. The Cearns were right – they were morally unfit to ever enter The boardroom at Upton Park. They still are. 15 years of Sullivan & Gold is a life sentence, What the hell did West Ham ever do to deserve it?
Fullkrug I expect to come good, you don’t lead the Germany front line if you’re useless, but that’s assuming he can stay fit. And you know about assume – it can make an ASS out of U and ME.
Sneaky way of getting rid, take away any position of authority he had so he leaves, saving any compo. Not something you could do with a manager
Good for Stiedten He needs to be at a club a lot higher class than ours A club that is run correctly with common sence a club that is run like a professional outfit AND NOT LIKE AN EAST END MARKET STALL GOOD LUCK TIM STIEDTEN
Getting rid of someone better than you at a job to mask your own failures is so Sullivan. SULLIVAN OUT
The protests begin…..
Sullivan’s sacrificial lamb to obscure his own failings.
Reported earlier that he resigned. Surprising if so, would’ve thought he’d wait for the poison dwarf to pull the trigger unless he has something lined up, but he’s no mug.
Ashworth’s availability would appear to be convenient.
Well, many have got what they wanted and they have sulli back in charge of transfers and look at the complete chaos and mess we’ve seen this window. Better get used to years more of this crap as sulli isn’t ever going to give up control and we are a doom loop of incompetence. But his favoured agents will happy as they are now back at the top table.
Who in their right mind would want the poison dwarf back in charge of transfers?
Massive error to let him go, his record elsewhere speaks for itself. It was our stab at modernising and we failed massively
