Euro dream still on but only just

Hammers Euro dream still on

West Ham’s European dreams are still alive, but just barely. The 2-1 comeback against Gary O’Neil’s Wolves team has kept The Hammers level on points with Manchester United, although they have two games in hand.

I still believe West Ham’s best chance of qualifying for Europe next season is if the UEFA coefficient makes 8th place a Conference League spot. Newcastle’s 1-0 win against Fulham today puts them 1 point behind with a game in hand.

Moyes Alvarez-Euro dream still on-West Ham

Euro dream still on for Moyes boys following a 2-1 win against Wolves

Their upcoming fixture is against Manchester United, and they also play Tottenham next. However, their run-in looks slightly easier than West Ham’s. David Moyes will have to beat Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Luton to stand a realistic chance of Euro qualification. The remaining games are against Liverpool, Chelsea, and finally Manchester City, who may still be fighting for the title on the last game of the season.

So the game is still very much on, and West Ham did well to come through today’s test. However, we have a thin squad, massive fixture congestion, and now await a scan on our top scorer Jarrod Bowen. Today was an uncomfortable dose of squeaky bum time, but we’re still in with a chance.
