West Ham United‘s pursuit of Georgian striker Georges Mikautadze seems to have reached a dead end, with Le 10 Sport reporting that he prefers a move to Roma or AS Monaco.
West Ham’s Europa League absence appears to be the deciding factor, as Mikautadze apparently prioritises playing in European competitions. This comes despite West Ham’s £17 million+ bid for the striker.
Interestingly, the article suggests West Ham might have overvalued Mikautadze based on his performance at Euro 2024, rather than his overall career trajectory. His recent scoring form might not translate well to the Premier League.
Mikautadze’s preference for European football suggests a potential concern regarding his motivation to join a Premier league team. Additionally, his willingness to consider West Ham might have been contingent on significant wage demands.
With Mikautadze seemingly out of the picture, West Ham should focus on exploring other striker options that better align with their project under Julen Lopetegui.
Isn’t it sad that so many footballers who find themselves in demand want to join a club who have already achieved success without having to contribute towards that same success? In this case, qualifying for European football. Some of those players are being unrealistic and perhaps ungrateful.
If a player is not excited to join Westham , don’t try and sign him . Motivation is key to how successful a player can be . We’ve seen at Westham what happens when players lose their motivation , not good .
Doesn’t anyone want to look at the bigger picture? A positive plan is being hatched for West Ham to be back in Europe for 2025-26.
Patience is a virtue but obviously he wants assurance of playing in Europe.
