Euro Irons hopes haunted by old problem

David Moyes spotted a problem which could yet haunt the Irons as they go into the most crucial nine games they have faced in years !

Few will forget the first half and hour to 35 minutes against Arsenal when absolutely everything went perfectly and we were as good as we have been at any time this season when charging into a 3-0 lead.

That the Gooners took over after that was one thing, what was worse was seeing the Irons slip into some bad old ways of which we thought had come to an end some time back.

Moyes saw it and raised it saying: “The negatives are how we have to control the ball better and keep it [under control].

“When we were 3-0 up we gave the ball away so I actually thought it was as much to do with us giving the ball away as it was to do with Arsenal.

“We continually gave them chances to build attacks and build pressure and there were a few things we need to do better generally.”

It’s happened before in near relegation seasons, losing possession, sloppy passing and paying the consequences of an increasingly lazy approach to games .

We have 27 points to play for and it seems to be accepted that 66 or above will be enough to see us into the top four.

But!

We simply cannot allow ourselves to start going down that sloppy road or allow that sort of “we’ve done it” attitude to enter our heads.

I’ve yet to see Declan or Tomas waste a ball in midfield and that needs to be repeated all over the pitch.

  1. You’ve yet to see Rice waste a ball on the pitch? I’ve seen him do it more than once!

  2. I think we will need at least 68 points and probably more like 71 points to get champions league
