Europa Conference League: Everything you need to know

|

West Ham are set to learn their Europa Conference League fate soon.

The Hammers have qualified for the competition after finishing seventh in the Premier League. A sixth-placed finish would have secured a return to the Europa League.

Instead, the Irons will be heading into the third-tier UEFA competition. Here’s all you need to know…

When is the draw?

Tuesday, August 2nd at 1pm UK time.

Do West Ham go straight into the groups?

No.

The Hammers will need to win a qualifying match in order to reach the group stages. There will be a home leg and an away leg. The first leg will take place on Thursday August 18th, with the second leg taking place a week later on the 25th.

Who will they play?

It remains to be seen.

The Irons are likely to be drawn against a side that comes through the third round of the Conference League qualifying.

As Football.London explain: “The majority of sides, including West Ham, will be playing in the Main Path. Seeded sides, such as the Hammers, will be drawn against an unseeded side. Nearer to the draw taking place, the seeded and unseeded teams will be placed into four groups of four, narrowing down the Hammers’ options.”
