Europe – the players have “been getting it in the ear”

David Moyes admits that the Hammers players have been getting it “in the ear” over the boss’s ambition to qualify for the Champions League.

The Irons are still in the race to make Europe’s top club competition.

With just three games of the club’s season to go, the Hammers are six points behind Chelsea in fourth, but they have a game in hand.

We are just two points behind Liverpool in fifth but the fixtures mean that the Reds have qualification in their hands.

Moyes accepts that Champions League qualification is still a way off, especially after a run of poor results, but he says he has made it abundantly clear to the squad just how much he wants to be playing in Europe next season.

He told reporters: “Maybe sometimes you can take a step too far. Even European football for a club like us, folk would be saying you don’t want to be playing European football on a Thursday and then [League] on a Sunday, all that carry on. I do. I want it bad.

“I want the players here to want it bad. They’ve been getting it in the ear off me for six to eight months so for that I really want it. When you get a chance you’ve got to take it. We’ve had a smell of Champions League, we’ll keep trying to go for it but that has got a little bit less likely than maybe it was a couple of weeks ago.”

  1. If desire was anything then Moyes alone would carry us through.
Hope the team sees the opportunity and grab it.

  2. Best of luck moyes you and the current squad have done the best to get us here as it is, getting champions league would be the ultimate goal, all the best

  3. If we dont get to europe,it wont be the govners or the players fault. Its All down to Tweedle dum & Dee for not making the funds available.
