Evan Ferguson Transfer Just The Ticket to Unlock Potter Plan

Evan Ferguson moving to West Ham may not have caught much media attention on a day when the Hammers were unsuccessfully chasing other targets and playing Premier League football.

However, the distraction should not mask the importance of a player Graham Potter is reported to have wanted above anyone else.

Whilst we can all argue the merits of a loan deal without an obligation to buy, any transfer that gets a manager his number one target has to be deemed a successful bit of negotiating.

Claret & Hugh were informed by a training ground source this morning that Potter is convinced the player he gave his debut to as Brighton manager will make a big impact at West Ham.

With the bad news that Crysencio Summerville will be missing for eight weeks, it is likely that Jarrod Bowen will be deployed somewhere other than centre forward, which brings Ferguson squarely into the mix.

There is a strong possibility he will start the Premier League game against Brentford on February 15th, and in Potter, the young striker has a manager who will certainly play to his strengths.

West Ham had a glimmer of how Potter would utilise a big target man during the brief time Niclas Füllkrug spent on the pitch against Aston Villa. Most long-time watchers of the Hammers’ new gaffer expect his team to play best with a focal point to the attack, and the 20-year-old Irishman will definitely provide that.

Only time will tell whether the lack of an obligation to buy will come back to haunt the Hammers, but Potter himself couldn’t be happier with the arrival of Ferguson

Brighton would have been deranged to give an option to buy. We would have been deranged to agree to an obligation to buy. Neither was ever going to happen so it was always going to be a straight loan or nothing.

Ferguson has great potential, great potential to be a success and great potential to break down again and do nothing. We will have to hope that it’s the former.

With what they knew about summerville i can’t believe they didn’t get anyone else in …touch wood it dosnt happen but fergurson has obviously had his injury problems..so if he gets injured straight away and With cyro out for 8 weeks..we will be in a worse position than before the window…they basically didn’t spend anything apart from the loan money on him …to me that’s very poor …but they prob had this plan all along…lots of players connected to us abd a few With deals already agreed but we pull the plug the last min …happened at least twice this window i think……

Yeah that’s good mate..I’ve been backing this boy from the start..but they have to give him some proper game time…5 _10 min here and there are no good ….I hope he getva proper game…I think he will get better and better on the pitch …if they give him a chance 👍

This is a short term plan and one where if Ferguson succeeds we will not put in an offer to buy.
Not sure we have the plan yet and hope that come the summer the lack of investment in this window is used.
So many positions that need filling, whether that is from the academy or from purchases.
I would like to see Potter look to the academy and utilise players to grow the club. The squad is ageing and needs investment, not Sullivans market gambling with no real intent.
