Evan Ferguson’s ‘fitness test’ goes horribly wrong for Brighton

Just for a change a resounding thrashing with a cricket scoreline didnt upset the Hammers one bit. After being on the receiving end of several huge defeats themselves this season, West Ham’s hierarchy probably quite enjoyed seeing someone else take a pasting. Brighton were torn apart by rampant Nottingham Forest  7-0 – who saw that coming!

Most importantly Evan Ferguson – who has missed several recent games with his persistent ankle injury – was named on the substitutes’ bench for the Nottingham Forest tie and came on as a 73rd minute replacement for Danny Welbeck. This game was presumably being used as a very public display of fitness to show West Ham and other suitors that Ferguson is fit, over his ankle injury and fully in the shop window.

I didn’t get a chance to see how he performed- the important point is that it would seem to prove Brighton’s assertion that they’ve got him fit and ready to go.

After a seven nil-drubbing it would not surprise me if Ferguson’s desire to quit the Amex has grown that little more urgent.

The next 48 hours in the grand scheme of Evan Ferguson’s career and West Ham’s season could be crucial: If a deal is struck as is likely, the 20 year old will have to undertake a medical having at least run around in match conditions for 20-odd minutes meaning the West Ham medical team can check for any lingering reaction.

Just the small matter of the price, the terms and the obligation to buy then! Compared with the challenges faced by Brighton’s medical team in getting the player back onto the pitch today – that should be a breeze.

Quite possibly Fergusons’ fitness has been the delay in an agreement – West Ham rightly seeking a ‘road test’ to make sure their proposed recruit was indeed ready to ‘hit the ground running’ as Graham Potter has demanded.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

I will repeat what I ha said any times already leading upto this transfer window, West ham will not make a single signing for our first team this is largely due to the fact that when it comes to transfer deadlines we don’t have the knowhow never mind the clout to sign the sort of quality player we require, and this come down to dithering sullivan, if he opened his wallet you would see the largest infestation of moths in the history of the world, he is tighter than a 30 year olds ass. Unless he can tell us otherwise.

Noʻt even worth commenting sull will not buy anyone as I’ve said many times this window all I can see is a relegation battle well done d–do

  • Morty says:

The trouble with players returning from long term injuries is that they immediately puck up a hamstring strain when they do play

  • M carr says:

Ferguson clearly has to be a loan deal, otherwise forget it.

  • Mick Bering says:

We should all realise our board are eating up time for the widow to shut on Monday with the we tried SICK AND TIRED OF IT If we were serious about signings we should be concentrating on a set player going all to get them not looking through the whole football league

  • Ted Fenton says:

Why are we even thinking about signing another sick note

    • Ian Hudson says:

That’s the trouble when looking for bargain basement bargains. I don’t think that our fitness testing can not be too tough otherwise we wouldn’t have signed so many crocks over the past. I guess as long as they are as fit as Sullivan we’ll buy them 😄

  • Phil Baker says:

Watched Forest destroy Brighton then on came Ferguson and didn’t hear his name once . Clearly he’s not match fit and could be a debacle worse than Calvin Phillips . I can almost see him being stretchered off in claret and blue , career over and Westham the mugs again 40 million flushed away .

  • John Ayris says:

The can he stay fit risk in this is off the scale. It can only be loan with option anything else would be a terrible decision.

  • Jaybs says:

Can we wake up Sullivan & get him to open his little Piggy Bank, & spend some money! Graham Potter knows what Evan can do! We don’t need old players signing for us!
