Evan Ferguson’s frustration has serious repercussions

It would be fair to say that Evan Ferguson’s loan spell at West Ham has been a bit of a disaster. Virtually no game time and little impact, Brighton’s young striker will head back to the South Coast at the end of the month feeling that half of this season has been wasted. For fans it has all been a bit of a head-scratcher, especially as Hammer’s manager Graham Potter was originally thought to be keen on the young striker.

Fergusons’ lack of impact must have further dented his confidence and could have serious ramifications for the Republic of Ireland player’s international career.

Reported in the belfasttelegraph.co.uk his national side manager Heimir Hallgrimsson has been speaking about the repercussions of Ferguson’s failed spell at London Stadium.

“He hasn’t been getting game time at West Ham, we just want to see where he is at the moment… All players know you have more chance of playing for the national team if playing on a regular basis ..and more chance if you’re playing well. I think he’s much more frustrated than me that he’s not playing”

No way could Evan Ferguson have expected to have become a permanent feature of West Ham’s bench for this latter half of the season: I’m sure he is as puzzled as West Ham fans as to his apparent fall from favour. If he’s lucky, his national coach will keep the faith for Ireland’s up and coming fixtures – after all, Ferguson’s only goal since joining West Ham did come in his countries’ colours. A frustrating episode in West Ham’s and the young man’s career, but one from which he will hopefully recover.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Could it be a ploy to knock his value down and then buy him at a reduced rate?

Brighton are the big losers here. Should they be disappointed that West Ham haven’t given him more game time or that he’s been anonymous when on the pitch. They’ll either need to sell at a huge discount to what they expected or try another loan to try to rebuild his value. If they were planning on using him to get funds in this window that’s dead now

Sometimes it doesn’t work out the way others thought it would. That’s life. Evan had his chances and his lines were fluffed.

Would have, could have, should have.

The great news? Niclas Fullkrug is back and on song. We just need to give him the ball now and then. Put it in the mix and see what happens.

I can’t remember what Brighton were expecting to get if the loan was successful but I think it was exorbitant. He must be worth 2 bob now.
Very true AM if that was the only player he deemed worthy of bringing in, in the transfer window, then god help us

A warning to any striker thinking of joining the Hammers, unless you wish to spend most time on the bench.

  • AM says:

Potter hasn’t got a scooby if he isn’t using a player that he insisted on how can he be trusted with any other player For me he hasn’t got it right once yet
