Eighteen consecutive seasons in the Premier League takes some doing. Turning out first for Arsenal, Swansea City and then West Ham United, Łucas Fabianski at 40 is still contracted to the Hammers until the end of this season but there are signs that the evergreen ‘keeper may be about to call it a day.
Troubled by a persistent back injury, ‘Super Fab’ has been missing for big chunks of the season and may well move into a coaching career- as we covered a couple of weeks ago.
However the big Pole has been reminiscing with fellow member of the Premier League goal keepers’ union Petr Cech and has highlighted the ‘best night of his career’ – the Prague final in June 2023 even though he was an unused substitute. As reported by flashscore.co,uk, Fabianski reflected on just why that night was so special for him:

“You’d never expect West Ham to win a European trophy. Maybe a cup run, a good showing in the FA Cup, but not a European title.
“The final in Prague was extra special because I had about thirty family members there. After the match, we all celebrated together on the pitch and later at the hotel. An unforgettable moment.”
As unforgettable as it was for fans also. Standing outside the Boleyn pub celebrating with about 80,000 Hammers fans as the bus drove past was one unforgettable experience for me too. How times have changed in three years. On the flip side, they can change back again just as fast!
