Everton 1-1 West Ham

Areola:6 His kicking game was immediately tested by Everton’s pressing game. Comfortable catch from Alcaraz after 22 mins. Made a decent save from a stinging O’Brien which was straight at him. Less long-range kicking which was most welcome.

Todibo:8 Not given a moments rest early on as Everton stopped West Ham playing out from the back. Had some decent moments and certainly looks to be getting fitter. Pretty much faultless.

Mavropanos:6 Unfairly blamed for a foul on Beto which was correctly overturned by VAR. No drama, no calamity, just s decent performance until he lost his man as Everton equalised in injury time then made another error two mins later.

Kilman:8 One clearance almost gave Everton their biggest chance bur rescued it moments later with a good recovery tackle. Made an excellent run forward in the first half to set up a Bowen attack.

Wan Bissaka:6 Managed to get forward more than against Newcastle and made some good blocks.

Everton tried to stop the hammers playing out from the back

Emerson:6 Set-up Bowen well who fluffed his lines with an attempted bicycle kick. Much better second half much like the team as a whole.

Soucek:8 Good block on Harrison stopped a scoring opportunity. The usual, lots of battling, tackles, headers and a few misplaced passes. Moved further forward in the second half. Neat pass early in the second half set up a decent attack. Made it 1-0 with an excellent first touch and curling finish from 15 yards out. Put in a huge shift in defence. His old boss David Moyes will not have been surprised by his impact.

Ward Prowse:7 Delivered an excellent corner which almost yielded an own goal and produced a great save from Pickford. Some decent long-range passes.

Paqueta:6 Brought a more fluidity to the Irons midfield but some way off his best form. Decent effort.

Kudus:7 Worked very hard from the start. Some decent flashes of skill but often outmanned. Incredible work rate.

Bowen:7 Deployed up front against the Toffee’s giant defenders. Managed to find some space on the half-hour mark and forced a good save with a stinging half volley. Seems like a long time since Bowen played in his most effective position but drifted to the left hand side and produced some decent wing play to set up the opener for Soucek.

Everton 1-1 West Ham: VAR decided Beto had kicked the ground . . . no penalty

Substitutes:

Soucek does it again. Ineffectual to the point he’s about to be subbed, then scores, and gets an 8/10… Shame about the other 89 minutes.

  • Darkhorse says:

As a long Hammers supporter it was no surprise we let in a late goal, very frustrating.

  • Paul Basnett says:

Acceptable result I suppose but a few big queries

Why Mavropanos? Always makes a game changing mistake.
Why Ferguson gets 2 irrelevant minutes, no point on having him on loan.
Why JWP, not creative and not defensive just in the team for dead ball deliveries and we haven’t scored from one for how long. Slow non creative midfield again.

    • David Green says:

Agreed , last JWP was Feb 3rd last year. Sideways passing and no creation.
Ferguson not coming on soon after we scored was negaative and counter productive.
      We desperatly needed an outlet.
Emerson was poor his cross to Bowen was terrible when he had all the time in the world to lay it on a plate. Poor man’s Ollie Scarles.
Potter is boring me to tears , I thought he was going to be different

Gutted to give away an injury time goal, and sick of reading that it was a mistake from Mavrapanos again. Still a point away though.

  • John Ayris says:

I called it as 0-0 in the predictions thread so more than half expected a draw. It was a decent enough away performance against a team on a good run.

  • Sheik Yerbouti says:

P****s you off when you concede a late goal.

  • Mavded says:

Well we played better in the second half but soon as we took the lead we took the foot off the pedal let them back in and the amount of possession we gave them around our box and corners it was always going to happen…annoyed but after first half i’d of taken the draw.
