Everton, Man City, Chelsea, Leicester Face Enormous Sanctions

The Premier League could make enormous sanctions on teams under investigation, The Times’  respected journalist Martin Samuels has suggested.

Indeed, the four worst transgressors, Everton, Manchester City, Chelsea and Leicester ‘could face banishment’ from the Premier League.

Samuels, writing in The Times suggests the three clubs newly promoted to the Premier League, could all be ‘safe’ from relegation already before a ball is kicked, even if they finish with zero points! The rationale behind this being that the four worst culprits of breaking the financial sustainability rules will be hit with such massive points deductions that three of them will  face relegation from the Premier League.

As Samuels states, points deductions aren’t the only penalties available to the Premier League:

“All have that threat over them: the possibility of points deductions or worse, of enormous sanctions, perhaps even banishment.”

Manchester City, facing over 110 charges, will start defending these charges  in September and this is likely to overtake the sanctions facing the others in the headlines. Everton at least are trying to sort out their debt behind the scenes with takeover plans advancing.

As supporters we look at the Premier League Investigations as a double edged sword, by hoping against hope that our own club won’t fall foul of the regulations whilst secretly ( or openly) hoping that the ‘worst’ transgressors who’ve had billionaires allegedly pumping money in for decades get the book thrown at them and get sent down to play in League 2.

Like everyone else, lifelong WHU fan and season ticket holder in old BMU stand at Upton Park from 2003. Billy Bonds these days with my adult son and impatiently waiting for my Grandson to be old enough to initiate him before his mum grabs him for Man U. All opinions are my own very biased ones.

It would be fitting for Man City and Chelsea to face huge sanctions, enormous sums of money have flowed into the clubs from mega rich owners and that’s the reason plain and simple why they’ve been successful.

Someone putting money in a business should be able to invest it as they feel fit like in all other businesses

My take Everton Leicester will face no points deduction as Premier league still need to explain why united got £40m covid payment from Prem and all others only got £1m. That 40M saved UTD going into PSR this season. Also Prem gave UTD 335M for the sale of the club. As UTD are a PLC their finances are public. So that will save them two clubs. chelsea incoming player transfer ban that be it. cant do total transfer pan due to they have to meet PSR. Man City will be done for not cooperating huge fine

Back in the day I had a huge respect for Man City, they had great fans that created a brilliant atmosphere which was applauded by us at Upton Park when they cheered their team for 90 min knowing they were relegate. I thought of them as a westham of the north. Similar level, similar ground and passionate fans..Then in comes the super rich owner, they move grounds, price out the hardcore fan base ( sound familiar)and buy every trophy available… I feel for the real Man City fans but as for the rest of them go get yourself an Arsenal shirt as the party is almost over

arsenal might eventually win the league

wouldn’t it be hilarious is we beat them to it

Lets face it Everton and Leicester will be stuffed Citeh and Chelski will get a slap on the wrist for being very naughty and do not do it again.
And the only sanction that should happen is the same one Juventus/Glasgow Rangers suffered and that was being relegated to the bottom of the league structure but it will not happen as the FA do not have the balls to do it.

    • B says:

The FA not having the balls…
it may also come down to the lawyers, accountants and underlying menace presented by the owners of these clubs (I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want to upset them!)

In addition, the Premiership is a financial gravy train for the UK and all involved, so opening the ‘can of worms’ may ruin the party for all concerned.
