Everton v West Ham United – Preview and predictions

West Ham’s trip to the Hill-Dickinson stadium has suddenly become something to anticipate instead of another dour Potterfest. New manager Nuno Espírito Santo has scarcely had a chance to see his West Ham squad training but, to his credit, decided to get to work with the squad straight away rather than await the international break.

Quite how the Hammers coach will set up is a tricky guess – probably playing on the break with a four at the back defence. You’d hope the atta king trio of Paquetá, Bowen and Summerville will have a striker ahead of them to work off. Fullkrug and wilson, perhaps, sharing the duties between their creaking limbs.

Claret and Hugh Predict Nuno’s starting Eleven:

West Ham United

Areola | Walker Peters, Mavropanos , Kilman, Diouf | Fernandes, Magassa, Paquetá | Bowen (c) Summerville,| Wilson

Score:

Gonzo 0- 0 – respect the point

Sean 1 – 0 West Ham win

Martin 2 – 0 West Ham win

Matt 1-1 take the point and move on.

We’ll have Nuno Espírito Santo’s first West Ham starting XI as soon as it is published – check back at 18.45 for the details. After the final whistle come back and compare your opinions with GHonzo’s player ratings and my ‘first impressions – final score’ articles on which you can comment yourself.

Come. On. You. Irons.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Let’s hope it’s not a dour Nuno fest

  • Lewis says:

If we manage to get a point tonight I will be delighted.
Everton are no push over especially at their new ground.

No Soucek guaranteed takes out some of the slow. JWP hasn’t travelled TFFT takes out more slow. I’ll go with Nuno’s new broom and accept whatever eleven he chooses.

He likes to play 3-4-3 and 4-2-3-1 so I’m expecting the latter in an away game. Nuno isn’t rigid though, he does amend his tactics in light of player strengths and weaknesses rather than force square pegs into round holes.

I’m going for a breath of fresh air, a new manager bounce and Moyes 1-2 Nuno out Moyesing Moyes and hitting them on the break.

Looking forward now to what under Potter was going to be a definite defeat.

I remember one of Moyes first games in charge of West Ham was away to Everton (who were about to be managed by BFS but he hadn’t yet taken charge)

We got beaten 0-4 with Joe Hart having a mare and Rooney scoring from the half way line

    Hopefully tonight will be better
