Reports suggesting Everton are close to hijacking West Ham’s deal to appoint Graham Potter are wide of the mark.
Speculation surfaced late last night that the Toffees had made an attempt to scupper the Hammers’ move for Potter, who is widely expected to replace Julen Lopetegui.
At the same time, rumours emerged that West Bromwich Albion had made a late bid for the former Chelsea manager. Albion are seeking a new boss after Carlos Corberán left to join his boyhood club Valencia on Christmas Eve.
However, Claret & Hugh is standing by what we reported last night: Potter has an agreement in principle to join West Ham, and an official announcement is anticipated soon.
It remains unclear whether Everton or West Brom actually made an approach for Potter, but the former Brighton manager—and friend of Karren Brady—was engaged in negotiations with David Sullivan yesterday, according to our sources.
In essence, not much has changed since Claret & Hugh’s exclusive update yesterday, which indicated that Lopetegui was unlikely to lead the team for their Premier League clash against Fulham. That timeline now appears to have accelerated as the Hammers look to finalise their new appointment.
Former West Boss David Moyes remains the man most likely to step into the Everton hot-seat should the club dispense of Sean Dyche.
What a complete and utter shambles. We have Villa away on Friday night in the only competition left available to us to progress much unless we land up in a relegation fight which seems all the more likely the longer loopy Lopi stays around. They need to put the poor bloke out of his misery rather than keep him hanging on whilst they run around talking to every out of work tom dick and harry.
Sack him now and put Nobes in temporary charge whilst they find the right manager.
We need Sullivan out
Could someone please tell me what Potter has achieved in the Premier League, you all wanted to get rid of the one Manager that has done anything with the Club in 50 years.
While we have Sullivan at the helm does is matter who manages the team it’s always going to be a sh**show
Definitely think Potter is a much more exciting appointment than Lopetegui with his attacking and posession based tactics at Brighton. His willingness to give young players certainly would be a major boost to our Academy and attract exciting talent. Slight concerns about his record at Chelssa with only 12 wins, 8 draws and 11 defeats from 31 games.
However if he can build strong relationships with players and Steiden and be given the backing he needs in the market this month, I think he can be a big success and interesting to see how this appointment might affect our chances of bringing Evan Ferguson in on loan from Brighton. Would be delighted if we can also bring in Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea on loan.
Not Kevin Keen as caretaker please. He lost both previous attempts with an aggregate score line of 2-6.
Mark Noble should inspire the lads on Friday night if necessary!
Well, it better be sorted before tomorrow’s press conference prior to the Villa game on Friday but presumably it will be Lopetegui in the seat?Probably, hardly any mention of the game itself but his seemingly, his pending dismissal I’m sure the board will be giving him a vote of confidence and a further two matches for results and performance’s to improve in the mean time!
Big mistake pushing David Moyes out the club. It’s the basics in football that gets results. And David did a fantastic job at West ham. To have a cup in the cabinet after all these years that shows how good he and his back room staff are. Now we play yoyo for the next few years. Unless we bring David back?
“David did a fantastic job at West Ham.” What about his last six months then – did he do a fantastic job? Did he make sure we had a full squad for all positions? Did he get us a striker over his last year? Did he make sure we didn’t concede a hell of a lot of goals? You are in denial, obviously. Or you are David Moyes in disguise!
The bookies had Lopetegui 1/12 to be next premiership manager to be sacked now eased to 2/7 ,
All the rumours can only have a detrimental impact on the players.
If Lopetegui is to be sacked, surely it must be today , and have a stand in for the Villa game.
How about this for a scenario , Lopetegui is still manager for the Villa game and we win. Then What
I’m amazed that they’ve not closed to book on Lopetegui to be honest. I suppose it is odds for the NEXT manager to be sacked not for certainty of being sacked and Everton or Tottenham could get on with the deed while we dally.
Sky reporting Lopetegui at Rush Green is I guess where he should be if he’s not been sacked. I suppose at least Lady Brady and security know where to go…
It’s just unbelievable John. Imagine what that atmosphere must be like with all the reports and press everywhere and reported breakdown in relationship with Tim. I really hope that there is an official announcement in the next 24 hours so there can at least be some proper preparation for the crucial Villa cup tie. We really couldn’t make it up with all the speculation at the moment.
I agree why does everything take so long , Kevin Keen could takeover temporarily. Just get it done and let’s move on .
What’s the timeline on this ?
Lopetegui sacked today ? tomorrow ?
Potter appointed Wednesday ?
We have a game Friday night for which we need to travel to Birmingham. Who oversees that ?
What a way to run a railroad.
