Every striker and his dog! Irons linked to EIGHTEEN strikers

Here we are, halfway through the transfer window, after David Moyes told us every player and his dog would be linked to us – he’s not wrong!

The club are regularly on the back pages and it seems we have been blessed with plenty of column inches this month!

Of course, only a fraction of them will come off but we at ClaretandHugh have crunched the numbers and they really are staggering.

Since the 1st of January – the window opened on the second – the club has been linked with no fewer than 18 different strikers!

Bear in mind, now, that we can only have a 23-man squad, and one feels we do need three goalkeepers, so that’d leave just two other positions to be filled.

From Real Madrid’s Mariano Diaz, to former Hammer Marko Arnautovic, via Bournemouth’s Josh King, and Watford’s Troy Deeney, plenty of names have been chucked at the Irons as potential solutions to the big striker problem!

There are names you probably know, like former Chelsea star Diego Costa and ex-Southampton striker Graziano Pelle, and also some you probably don’t, like Gaetan Laborde of Montpellier and Spezia’s M’Bala Nzola.

There are also those who might well come off; Boulaye Dia has been linked no fewer than four times, and where there is smoke, there is usually fire.

But they’ve been trying to light campfires across the continent, by the looks of it, and we’ve also been linked with plenty of other players.

There are four midfielders who are reportedly targets, including ex-Spud Christian Eriksen, four defenders, including Barcelona’s Junior Firpo and even, strangely, a goalkeeper, in Pau Lopez at Roma.

That’s the bingo card filled in.

We at C&H will tell you which stories are true and which aren’t – spoiler alert: The majority of them aren’t!

So here’s the full list of the players – sadly we couldn’t get hold of the names of their dogs

  1. You missed one… John from Trinity United 3rd team in the Southend Sunday League 8th division, has put a transfer request in, seeing that no one brought him a pint after the last match, great potential scored 7 goals in his previous 18 seasons!

      • Yes I know it was a crap joke but as with every transfer window, Most of these reports about West Ham’s intrest in this player or that, will probably have come from their agent. I have lost count of the ‘Total Baller’ remarks and the ‘West Ham must sign this player.’ At the end of the day it is solely up to GSB who Moyes will be allowed to sign, and unfortunately what with a loss on Haller and prossibly Anderson leaving at a reduced fee, GSB talk and act as if they have had their fingers burnt.
I hope that they do sign the players we need to improve the squad and also put the team in the position we all feel it should be. I would be happy with a Striker and a Left Back, at this time they are a neccesity to help us push on this season.

  2. Sometimes when we’re linked to a certain player I google the name and hey presto I see that the player has been linked with several other clubs too. This tells me the player has most likely been offered by the agent to a lot of different clubs. This by no means means we’re actually interested in that player. It’s just like a player auction designed to drum up the highest bidder. Now there is a chance we might be involved, the player is available, but just as likely the player will go to a team prepared to cough up the money. In our category of team that means the players we are interested in will most likely go to an Everton or a Crystal Palace etc in the past. So what I like to do is this. If I find a player is linked to several clubs apart from ourselves then I completely ignore the rumour. If the player is linked solely to West Ham however then I think maybe there’s something in it. Like I heard we were interested in coufal, souchek and shortly afterwards it was confirmed. No other clubs were linked.

  3. Come home from work every night hoping to see some good news on a forward or 2 ,but just more talk with different players every day but no significant signing or even a bid for that matter…I know we have been here before and i know I’m repeating myself hugh but how long can you talk about players ..we must have an idea surely.. ..its not hard to get a yes or a no from a player we are interested in .” .would you be interested in a move to west ham” if no then move on..I struggle to get it especially when we sell players within a day or two…then again I’m just a truck driver so what do I know …but a simple question do you want to move, cant be that difficult..we might be able to let them settle then before a few games …very very frustrating

    • I wrote this morning who I thought was the most likely but if the boss isn’t sure how can anyone be. It’s very difficult running a website like this. When I reported stright out who it would be I was in the board’s pocket and shouldn’t be doing it cos it alerts other clubs. Now I don’t go there so much I’m told I must have an idea. I do – my opinion – as writte is that we will go for Dia xos the french market has collapsed. It’s on the site. You can find it if you scroll down

      • Ok hugh thank you ..I Didnt mean you so much about having idea I ment the club,,I’ll have a look at French bloke ..

        • Same every window mate. We are such an easy club to link players to because agents know we have been leaky and the news will be published ad nauseum given them a chance to get as much attention on their players as poss. Hopefully that will change with Moyes getting a grip.

        • There’s plenty of Midfielders missing from that list including Josh DaSilva, Alex Kral & John Lundstram.
Also Left-Backs Rico Henry & Omar Richards.

  4. The list of strikers goes on, Adam Armstrong from Blackburn (who I rate) has been linked with WHU for a couple of transfer windows now.

  5. Forget the dogs, whatever they’re names. I do think Troy Deeney could do a marvellous job for us. Don’t know his current circumstances or ambitions but if it was possible for him to come and play for us – we would all love it. I won’t be unhappy if we find that we can’t find anyone suitable at the moment. We’re doing OK and will continue to do so until end of season. If there’s a crisis before the end, no doubt that will be addressed at the appropriate time.

  6. Anyone know if Allan Saint-Maximin of Newcastle is available? He’s often looked like a Michail Antonio type whenever I’ve seen him on TV.
Hoping for NINETEEN now, Hugh. Happy days.
