Ex-Hammers sicknote finds new club

Ex-West Ham star Andy Carroll has found himself a new club!

The former striker has joined Reading on a free transfer to bolster their striking ranks in the Championship, the club has announced.

Carroll has only signed a short-term deal that runs until the January transfer window, perhaps as Reading look to assess his fitness and whether he can still play at such a level.

He has struggled immensely for minutes in recent seasons and, while he played 18 times for Newcastle last season, only four of those were starts. He did not complete the 90 minutes once, but he did score against Leicester.

Carroll spent a total of seven years in east London, having joined initially on loan for the 2012/13 season, but that deal was made permanent in 2013.

He scored a total of 34 goals in 142 games for the Hammers but struggled immensely with injuries, missing a total of 1,365 days with his fitness issues; that totals 154 games all told.

If he can stay fit, Reading have found themselves a decent striker but that’s a big if!
