Thrilled David Sullivan watched the Hammers score a courageous victory against Southampton and declared: “What a difference a ball carrying midfielder can make!”

Speaking exclusively to ClaretandHugh he declared the team had also received some overdue luck and that Michael Antonio had thoroughly deserved the fortunate goal that helped lead to his man of the match award.

Most would agree that the arrival of Manu Lanzini alongside Andy Carroll was the managerial master-stroke which changed the game coupled with Antonio’s heroic running at pace and power.

And the chairman said: “Lanzini was excellent and showed exactly the difference a ball carrying midfielder with real skill can make to a team.”

The chairman had announced before the game the deal to make his stay permanent would be made either in February or March – a decision publicly welcomed here by CandH chief analyst Lerot Rosenior who described it as a master-stroke by the chairman.

David – a regular reader of our columns – thanked Leroy for the compliment and added: ” I thought Antonio really deserved a goal for his non stop effort and running and Andy Carroll’s  header was a cracker.

“Maybe we had a bit of luck for the first goal, but it was long overdue and Mr Antonio deserved it for his non stop commitment and determination.”

I can name another one that fits that bill , but why spoil the joy of last night !

More likely it was taking Zarate off who, to put it diplomatically, was not having one of his better games – in fact he was cack!

Oh, and it makes a change for the MOM to be someone who had a good game – the one that always sticks in my mind was when a Renault Dealership was sponsoring the MOM and Julien Faubert, who was stinking the place out, got awarded the MOM to derision all round!!

Can someone please explain how we can sign Lanzini in Feb or March when the transfer window is shut????

Although the deal will be signed in February or March, I would imagine the contract would be that the deal would go through on the opening day of the transfer window in the summer. Lanzini would still technically be a loan player until then.

We signed him on a one year loan with an option for a permanent deal. DS is saying we will take up that option in Feb/March. So he’ll complete his one year loan and then be a permanent transfer come July 1st 🙂
