West Ham are looking to sign a right-back this summer. Claret & Hugh have spoken to a top West Ham United source within the last hour to confirm that it is an area that has been highlighted for strengthening in this transfer window.

The club is fully aware of the lack of depth in the right-back area, which was highlighted during yesterday’s friendly match in the absence of Vladimir Coufal.

The high-ranking club source was keen to stress that centre forward remains a position of the utmost importance; however, the club is also in the market for other positions too.

When C&H highlighted the lack of depth at right back, our top West Ham insider pointed out that yesterday’s pre-season fixture against Ferencváros was primarily about fitness, tactics, and positions. Nevertheless, it remained clear there is a paucity of options in the full back positions and it’s an area that will be strengthened.

Hammers’ head coach Julen Lopetegui is also understood to be delighted with the work and physical progress made by the squads during the Austria training camp.

I’m watching the lionesses at the moment, and i have a suggestion for the next England manager, take your squad to watch the lionesses as they do something that the men’s team didn’t do in the European championships. It’s called pass and move and they are definitely a better watch than the England men’s team.

We need several quality players who will come into the first team in key areas.Centre forward left wing attacking midfielder and defensive midfielder left back right back and a centre back minimum!!!! We were told that west ham have money to spend yet we can’t afford £35m for a centre forward our key area? Sullivan needs to step up and give the ok to reinforce our first team and squad. Its imperative that we get this right this summer or forever be an also ran fighting relegation every other year!!!!

This comment makes no sense.. You say we need 7 players ready to enter the first team, and then you think it is strange we can’t spend 35m on one of those 7 positions? How much do you think we should spend for the desired 7 positions you mention???

I’ve only just posted that the squad currently stands at 22. To bring seven in would mean that we would need to ship four out. It’s not always easy to ship players out, not the ones you’d like to ship out anyhow who are usually the poor performers or the highly paid.

We are in a fairly good PSR position compared with other clubs but the days of anybody spending freely are over. It’s an expensive proposition to bring seven in even if not highly priced ones.

Difficult due to nobody actually knows how much is in the kitty as it keeps changing.
        Also with outgoings and uncertainty.
        Zoom(a)_hopefully / Ings / Antonio (think he should stay as a useful sub) / Aguerd / Downes_gone / Cornet / Coufal_contract problem.
        Needs: c/bk / l/bk / r/bk / left winger / striker.
Hopefully Irving can cover Alvarez, good comments re first friendly.
Existing players (plus academy) will be able to put some strength in subs bench.

Totting up… Areola, Fabianski, Foderingham, Cresswell, Zouma, Coufal, Aguerd, Emerson, Mavropanos, Kilman, Paqueta, Alvarez, Soucek, Ward Prowse, Guilherme, Irvine, Bowen, Kudus, Earthy, Antonio, Cornet, Ings.

That’s 22 with a maximum of 25. Three more allowed in unless there are departures.

Nice to see signs of C & H beginning to return to a settled position.

    Good, considered, reporting.

    Hi all

As usual the expectations of a large percentage of hammers fans is off the scale! We are nowhere near being able to match up to usual big spenders. But with my long standing hammers hat on we do have the nucleus of a good squad but obviously lacking in depth. I’m sure that those that have hold of the reigns are trying to put that right. But so are every other prem team & there’s not an abundance of good players available-add the ridiculous wage demands being asked by a lot of shady so called agents/crooks!
As Ferguson once asked of one of them what’s the point of you ? Still 6 weeks to go I’m sure we’ll be seeing a stronger in depth squad for kick off.

    Com’n you Irons!

  • Kip says:

Looking to buy .!!!!!!!!…does everyone know the prem starts in a few weeks…..wouldn’t it be nice to have a full squad before we start playing games for a change…….ffs how much Looking and talking is needed …AGAIN..other prem clubs are buying with no dramas like ours

    • Andy says:

Nonsense. The number of completed deals reported is very small. It’s always like this. It’s like a housing chain, when everybody has their replacement sorted a chain of deals goes through.
