West Ham have an obligation to buy Craig Dawson if he makes a set number of appearances for the Hammers this season..

ClaretandHiugh understands that while Watford and West Ham are keeping the exact number games required to trigger the clause close to their chest but the Irons are 99% sure they will sign the defender on permanent deal in the summer.

The 30-year-old joined Watford from West Brom in a £5.5million deal ahead of last season, which resulted in relegation for the Hornets.

Dawson featured 29 times in the Premier League last season and scored twice before returning to the top flight with West Ham on loan earlier in the season.

He’s now made ten Premier League appearances for the Hammers and scored twice with a possible 13 games remaining.

The transfer fee payable to Watford to believed to be somewhere between £2m and £3m, a far cry from the £30m the club were prepared to pay for James Tarkowski.

Great news. I remember DM saying defenders generally improve with age and experience and this is probably true, just look at Oggies performances this season. At 30 years of age and the way Dawson has performed since getting into the side this could be an excellent piece of business.COYI

The way Dawson is playing its a no brainer to buy this defender. I must admit that when we bought him I couldn’t see him doing much after two previous years attached to relegation. BUT once was given chance gave 110% in all games and is seen keeping the back four all working together, brilliant loan which must be eventually easy buy at end of season.

I cant believe I am saying this but I would be happy with this – has completely changed my opinion. If we were to make Europe I believe we need to still buy a top CB this summer, especially if Balbuena is out of contract. Diop, Dawson and Ogbonna would not be enough to cover a season in Europe.

Given the recent high fee set by a tribunal for Harvey Elliot’s move to Liverpool any chance the fee might get waived here considering that were in a similar position with Ngakia?

Wondering if they might just agree for us to have Dawson on a free if we drop taking them to a tribunal over Ngakia?

No-brainer. Hopefully we’re not waiting for a number of appearances. Anyone got a pen? 🙂

Only came here to check out fans “erupting”. Little bit let down 🤣.
Obviously hammers will sign him even though it may be for 2 years.
