Exclusive: Irons fans react to Austin/Sullivan row

|
  • West Ham’s co owner David Sullivan has been at the centre of a major controversy with Queens Park Rangers striker hitting back over claims that he may not be 100 per cent fit.

Sullivan’s remarks were made on the KUMB podcast and following the row that has broken out ClaretandHugh’s Facebook forum has been going into overdrive.

Here’s a selection of the comments we have received on the issue.
Graham Herbert I truly wish that our esteemed owners would… SHUT THE F###k UP! No offence, like!
Stephen Snell Agree Graham it’s a bit thin when they make comments like that, he defo won’t sign for us now so we are left with only one striker
Graham Herbert This is yet another embarrassment to all West Ham fans. This will be plastered all over the papers, tomorrow. As if we don’t have enough to put up with! Fast becoming the laughing stock of football – what with the Olympic Stadium protests an all!
Greg Husband Really cant understand sullivans comments when Austin has scored more in one season in the prem than carroll has in each season at west ham and then jack comparing him too grant holt . Not digging carroll out cos i like him but i think sullivan should look at our own strikers before mocking charlie Austin .
Stephen Snell I know, why can’t we be like most other clubs and allow us to enjoy it. Bournemouth will be well up for a fight on Saturday as they do not want to lose 3 on the bounce and as for us I am a little concerned that Bilic is not getting the players he wants.
Sean Oakley This is quite simply embarrassing!
James Mitchell Austin could be another Harewood 1 season premiership wonder and then found out. I personally don’t think he would be but £15 million is a lot for 1 proven season at the top level. We also were quoted or offered £6 million for Grant Holt after his 1st wonder season, look where he is now.
Rich Sprent Why is it embarrassing? Why? He only said what has been doing the rounds on the forums for the past 2 years. Austin failed a medical at Hull… anyone know why?

Sean Oakley Rich your seriously asking why it’s embarrassing?? He owns the football club! He and a few others at our club should be a lot more professional in what they say in interviews and Twitter!
Lord Emlyn Underhill Imagine the embarrassment on buying a player with bad injury record…again. prefer he didn’t say it but hey ho. We now no why we aren’t signing him, better the fans know why we aren’t signing him. I’d rather a sign….umm…I dunno…..maybe an available Mexican striker stop people surmising and suggesting that we might buy austin or being told at least a dozen times a day…”buy Austin” at least we know where David stands on the issue!!!
Lord Emlyn Underhill Graham you only keep hearing about West Ham because you support West Ham. Plenty of other clubs are having their “issues”

Jeez, what is it about this Austin thing that people can’t seem to let go. Sullivan, perhaps frustrated at the endless and pointless saga, decided to kill it off for good but even now the discussion rages on.
About the only good thing is, Sullivan’s remarks about the money side is another confirmation that a big money striker was never on the radar, which also confirms what Slav has said

Your right about Sahko & Payet but, I am sorry JMan I also have grave reservations about another 15 mill striker with a suspect medical record. Its DS;’s money and He hasn’t got value for money with AC so far !!! (Lets hope) so as I commented under another heading I really think He is now very wary.

JMan43 ; I suggest you look at Carroll’s record in the Premiership . Because that is where Austin would have to play .. Please don’t tell me Austin is worth 15 Million .
Carroll is a goal scorer of note , no question .. Look at the goals he was scoring before his injury plight struck him , if he had not been injured West Ham would have finished in the top six last season without question . If ever a player had a massive effect on a team , it’s Carroll . … Can’t say the same about Austin I’m afraid .
I didn’t compare Austin to Holt ,, not sure where you read that !!
Where exactly did you watch Austin over three or four seasons ,, it wasn’t Upton Park .
Austin could suffer a injury crisis just as well as anybody ,, then what ,, another player who you wish we never had ??.. Please think before you comment .
In the meantime try Supporting our Players , it could be interesting for you , as a novelty .

Goal scorer of note? Are you having a laugh,he is hardly prolific.Do you even know what your talking about Kevin??? We would hve finished top six if Carroll had been in the team.Nah,youre on a wind up!!! Carroll has never been a goalscorer of note.

  • JimmyF says:

Kevin often makes silly comments, sorry Kevin but you do sometimes.Seems you know little about Austin with this white elephant comment.Do a little background research before talking rubbish. What are you on about Austin not showing a willingness to join us.No logic in that comment at all.

  • JMan43 says:

Kevin, shows you know nothing about Austin then doesn’t it, stupid comment. I have watched him over the last three/four seasons and when someone has scored 60goals in 3 seasons you have to take notice. Tell me how many that waste of money Carroll has scored in 3 seasons? Your credibility is shot when you state I would put my faith in Carroll, Sakho and Valencia and that Austin would warm the bench!! Carroll would find himself sidelined he is not a goalscorer of any note and I for one never wished we had bought him. This so called knee issue is a red herring, especially if you look at Austin’s injury record; there is no issue and Sullivan’s comments were both embarrassing and undeducated, not fitting of an owner of any club, Austin would repay that £15 million in one season with the likes of Payet et al servicing him, far better player than Carroll will ever be. So tell me we’re not willing to gable on a goalscorer but we are on a holding midfielder which is hardly our priority at the moment. This is another example of Sullivan not willing to pay the money you need to to get a goalscorer and that is why we are in for a tough season as is. Apart from Sakho and may be Payet, where do you think the goals are going to come from? Comparing Austin to Holt is an insult and very poor one at that. I suggest if you want to comment on Austin then look t his career and then look at Carroll’s and then comment.

I said in a previous post , that Charlie Austin could turn out to be ” an expensive white elephant ” , and I have’nt changed my mind .
Sullivan is just frustrated and annoyed that QPR will not lower thier asking and that Austin has not demonstrated a will to join West Ham . Sour Grapes from a Joint Chairman who has not , as yet , signed a top striker …
Austin knows that moving to West Ham would give him limited playing time because West Ham have put thier faith in Carroll & Valencia & Sakho . ,,, so would I .
