Exclusive: Irons look for strikers AND defenders

FeghoulilsWest Ham – having brought Sofiane Feghouli to the club on a free transfer today – are on the trail of two strikers, a right back and central defender.

And that would bring the number of signings up to the six promised by David Gold towards the end of last season.

The Hammers see Feghouli as a replacement for Victor Moses and with him and Michail Antonio looking after the right side of midfield, the next requirement is for a right back with Paris St Germain’s Gregory van Der Wiel still a target.

James Tomkins may not be an option for the position with Slaven Bilic believed ready to let him move on if the right sort of offer is received.

That would leave the Irons light on the right side of the back four with Sam Byram the only player who could naturally fill the position although Antonio could be used in emergencies.

A very well placed source told ClaretandHugh today: “Our shopping list is fairly pretty well set up; one very prolific striker as everybody knows plus a second given that Enner Valencia is likely to move on.

“We will definitely be bringing in a right back this summer as we are clearly light in that position and the manager is also keen to strength at central defence .”

  1. Sound about right,
Hope Slav gets what he wants,

  2. Would have thought a left back was needed too as Hendrie doesn’t seem to fit the bill, never used last season even to give Cresswell a rest .

  3. Don’t give up on Hendrie just yet, he’s still very young and can develop, although he is not in the same talent pool like Oxford obviously.

  4. Im sorry but I cannot believe some of our fans are so effing stupid that they believe we will not bring in a proper rb.If I read them moaning about Antonio playing there I am going to set the Russians on them lol.Nordtveit can play there,Atiba can play there if we sign him & thats before a proper right back comes in.One will, stand on me 😉

  5. Don’t tell me you ain’t used to it by now Stan.Every transfer window some of our support go into hysterical bouts of transfer madness. They would do well to switch off West Ham media sources,it may well stop them getting an ulcer.

  6. RB is a must, playing Antonio there is a waste of his talent & he can’t defend. Let Tonks go & give Oxford more PL game time along with cup games. He could be 1st choice come the end of the season. I like Ried but he will need replacing soon imo, he has reached his level & we will leave him behind as Slav strengthens the team.

  7. Still looking at Tore I would guess. Then there’s the possibility of two forward leaving one replaced by a young striker, the other a winger. Maybe a left back loan as back up if hendrie isn’t ready but look at MA this season MIA to start with then boom. All is going along as expected if we take last year as an example. Hugh has given us enough info in three of his articles on the transfer plans of SuGo to make this window very boring with surprises and sooooo exciting for quality players

  8. assuming feghouli and Antonio competing for right wing spot but Antonio can play left wing. Most of Antonios goals for forest before he joined us were scored coming in from the left towards the left stick.
