West Ham will NOT benefit financially if Graham Potter takes the Swedish national coach role.

Sweden sacked Jon Dahl Tomasson on Tuesday following a poor start to the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign that has left them sitting bottom of Group B with just one point from four games.

Potter previously enjoyed a successful spell in Sweden as boss of Ostersunds FK from 2011 until 2018.

The English manager led them from the fourth tier of Swedish football to its top division, and also helped them win the Swedish Cup in 2017.

Potter was believed to have been earning around £5m per year at West Ham has a contract until June 2027.

The Swedish national coach role is not well paid.

No compensation reduction if Potter takes Sweden role

The previous coach Janne Andersson earned 4,420,300 SEK in 2022. This is roughly equivalent to €377,747 per year (based on exchange rates)

That is £327,000 per year or £6,288 per week.

A club source responding to the question whether West Ham would save anything in compensation if Potter was appointed as Swedish national coach replied a simple “NO”

I wouldn’t say no to £6k per week…especially having put millions in the bank from WHU and Chelsea…..Never feel sorry for sacked managers, they still get paid….

Classic spin article. Potter is on gardening leave, so potter either makes a deal with us or we refuse to let him take the sweeden job while under contract. It might be petty but so be it. Let him go when he makes the deal or a better paying job comes up.

He isn’t on gardening leave 100%.

His contract has been terminated and thus he will be paid in full and has no clause re further employment

Sounds fair enough. If the Swedes want to save £3k every week, I’ll take the job. Just need to ask an Artificial Intelligence app about what decisions to make. No original thought required for this position.
