It’s shaping up to be a fascinating transfer saga. Douglas Luiz’s move to Juventus last summer hasn’t gone as planned, with West Ham mentioned as leading the race to bring him back to the Premier League, according to the latest report in La Gazetta dello Sport.

Limited to just three Serie A starts without registering any goal contributions, the Brazilian midfielder has found himself on the periphery—primarily due to a succession of injuries, including muscle fatigue, hamstring issues, and other muscular problems, resulting in a total of 20 missed matches.

The proposed deal is reportedly a £8.6 million loan with a purchase obligation between £21.6m and £25.9m, triggered by certain performance-related conditions. Juventus, who valued Luiz at around €50m when signing him, are said to be open to creative formulas to avoid a financial loss.

Everton are also sniffing around, but West Ham’s recent cash influx from selling Mohammed Kudus to Spurs for £55m gives them a strong hand. If the Hammers pull this off, it could be a savvy piece of business—Luiz was one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders during his final season at Villa Park.

Luiz’s former partner, Alisha Lehmann, launched her professional career with West Ham United Women’s team.

However, when Claret & Hugh contacted a senior source at the club earlier today, they were told a deal for Luiz is currently viewed as ‘unlikely’ at this stage suggesting that the player’s wage demands and injury record remain key stumbling blocks.

Claret & Hugh will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as the situation evolves.

Not sure why anyone thought this was likely, Luiz isn’t leaving Juventus to be in a team that’s not in Europe, then there is the transfer fee, the wages, the injury record and he’s not that young either so not much chance of making money on him.

    Told you so

Its another typical smoke screen by the owners to not spend money. Mismanagement of funds has been ripe with this club, the influx of players last summer was a joke, and wasted money

Now 29 so limited resale value and a flop last season at Juve so how is this a savvy piece of business? Has all the hallmarks of WHU paying over the odds for a player approaching 30 who might be past his best. I think we’ve been here before, sadly many times.

He was 27 in May although personally I still think that’s the wrong age profile, especially with last seasons injury record.

Juventus linked us to 2/3 of their players last summer.

I think our 16th richest club in Europe is just Juventus trying to associate clubs to try and generate interest in players they no longer want.

We didn’t sign any of the linked players last year and I expect the same this year.

    Haha what a surprise
