Hammers’ manager Graham Potter appears to be getting pretty focused on the shape of his squad for the next Premier League season. Clearly some who were not taken to the USA such as Emerson Palmieri are exit bound, once buyers are found. Emerson’s situation is somewhat confusing right now as the club who reportedly want to take him have a transfer embargo in place – so quite how long the Brazilian will have to wait around for Lazio to sort their finances out is just not clear.

From a conversation with our high ranking source inside West Ham today, it is clear also that Graham Potter appears to have made a decision on ‘El Machin’ Edson Alvarez: According to our source, Alvarez is also available for sale:

The Manager is not sure he can play in his system, so Alvarez is available for Sale” .

Which is quite a change for the Mexican -after lifting the CONCACAF  trophy with his international side in the summer and getting himself the Golden Ball award as Player of the Tournament. Despite that, West Ham’s manager doesn’t seem to see him fitting in to the style which Graham Potter wants to adopt.

Incredible , really, a EUCL trope winner just two years ago, Alvarez had his disciplinary issues and multiple yellow and red cards last year which has made him something of a ‘marmite’ player which everyone has very strong feelings about.

Presumably that’ll mean either Alvarez gets sold and a replacement brought in – if there is time during this window – or the Mexican adapts to the style Potter wants.

It could also explain the links with Lille’s defensive midfielder Ngal’ayel Mukau following the Congolese starlet putting on a good display against the Irons at the weekend: For the record, he scored his penalty and actually had a couple of very promising attacking runs. Watch the game again, he’s Lille’s number 17. At the moment.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Edson Alvarez is the only current midfielder who can win the ball in midfield. Why on earth would we sell him? If Potter’s preferred option is JWP as a holding midfielder then I give up on him

  • Dartmoor Mushroom says:

So this club “can” be become more laughable, didn’t think it was possible, but of course, IT WAS ! I suppose every pack has to have at least one joker, 😅🙏🏻😩

A quality coach will imprint his desired playing style on any squad within 6 matches and start getting better results . As player of the tournament Edson Alvares isn’t crap and if playing for any other team in the world would be rated at 60 million plus . It’s a big worry that Potter failed in 19 league games and can’t get a decent performance out of most of the squad . It’s also a worry that he failed at Chelsea and with Brighton managed 15 , 16 and 9th place with not many goals . It’s going to be a painful watch again this season up until Potter’s sacked .

You are better off not believing a word you read if the words West and Ham are in the storyline. Once again I have just read that “many clubs are eyeing Guido Rodriguez for a transfer” while we all know that West Ham couldn’t close a deal where they give him away and pay his salary. Who the hell would be interested in him? Certainly not anyone that has watched him play for WHU. The same goes for Ward-Prowse and Cornet. Those three will still be on the payroll when Aldershot are in the PL.

  • Jango says:

Should be in front of jwp and Soucek
Seems to b the type of player that needs to b needed

  • Lou says:

Really good player but not anywhere near quick enough for the premier league. I don’t think he’s as reckless in the tackle as he looks. He just arrives late all the time.

He’d do very well in Italy.

  • Phil says:

Hammer mate. You are so right. West Ham are so predictable. Style of play is old hat. Surely if you stick 11 players on a pitch , just let them play. It helps if they have ability
JWP , Soucek etc haven’t !! Nor has Potter to be flexible !!

  • Irish Hammer ⚒️ says:

Agree with other comments, more importantly exactly which midfielders do fit Potters style as they seem incapable of defending when we lose the ball, which is still fairly often. Even Citeh don’t have the ball for an entire game so the ability to win it back is as important as having possession and doing something with it ( not passing sideways and backwards).
I think this is a personality clash. Alvarez knows how and wants to defend, perhaps expecting more of his teammates has upset one or more of them and we know Potter doesn’t like them criticising each other.
Füllkrug was right but still got put on the naughty step.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

I like Alvarez but Potter knows the system and if Alvarez doesn’t fit he is too good a player to waste his best years as a sub. Let’s hope we can get £30+ m for him he should have some suitors given his player of the tournament stats.

  • Dean says:

Yet ward Prowse, who offers the square root of precisely zero appears to be the first name on potters team sheet! I despair at the thought of Guido, JWP and soucek in any midfield. We now have a keeper who is extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet yet we have a midfield devoid of quality, guile and pace so it’s no use mass playing the ball into the feet of the midfield as it will just go sideways then backwards!

  • Sue says:

    Please not Calvert-Lewin
Are we trying to assemble a team for a past my best league
For god sake he might be free but 100,00 a week, you must be joking
Let’s get some fresh young legs in.
Fernandes or Gueye we are slowly losing out to all the top targets because I don’t think there ever was any serious talks to get these players.
Just names being thrown in to make the fans think they are trying to buy these players

All getting to be a bit of a sad joke, which West Ham fans seem to go through every transfer window
Duran from villa, let’s say no more

  • Hammer says:

The style that Poundland potter is trying to adopt keeps getting us caught out at the back allowing teams to high press on us forcing mistakes, hopefully potter will be gone before Alvarez is, I’d be more concerned about the performance of jwp and the rest of the midfield at the moment.

    • Slater says:

Exactly the right term. Poundland Potter another freebie manager who’s going to destroy top class players that he can’t manage.

  • Julian Woodhouse says:

Agree with Mick, only West Ham would entertain selling a player who won player of the tournament a few weeks earlier in a major tournament.

  • Mick bering says:

I feel this would be a big mistake by us to sell him good player with the right people around him
He could and should be our own roy keane type
