With a number of West Ham youngsters including Preston Fearon, Mohamadou Kante, Airidas Golambekis and Josh Landers recently committing to longer term deals, there has been increasing speculation surrounding the future of one of the standout Championship-loanee successes of last year:
George Earthy.
Earthy has been part of West Ham United since the age of six, and has risen through the ranks of the clubs academy playing a pivotal role in the U18s double winning campaign in 2022-23.
In September 2023, Earthy signed a three-year professional contract with West Ham, which runs until June 30, 2026. C&H approached a senior source earlier today concerning news on his contract.
Claret and Hugh’s high ranking source inside West Ham confirms that the club holds an option to extend George Earthy’s deal.
Normally these extensions are for a further 12 months, which would explain why the club seems quite laid back about Earthy’s contract running down. Hopefully the focus will be on the Hammers midfielder rebuilding his fitness and breaking through to regular first team football first – and then sorting his contract out next year once he’s established.
Earthy suffered a hamstring injury in October 2025, following an earlier ankle issue that kept him out of preseason. Despite these challenges, West Ham remains optimistic about his future.
Earthy’s decision to stay and fight for his place despite offers from Championship clubs in the summer demonstrated his commitment to the club and belief in its development philosophy.
With his contract nearing its final year, Earthy’s performance and fitness over the coming months will likely influence West Ham’s decision on activating the extension clause. Nuno Espírito Santo has made it clear that youth development is central to his vision for the club and Earthy’s journey is aligned to the club’s long-standing tradition of developing talent.
There’s always a reluctance to play these youngsters in the Premiership and WHU seem to stick to these ways. However, looking at Sunday’s emergence of Freddie Potts, perhaps Nuno will at least bring them into the matchday squad, even to give them time on the pitch.
Don’t forget that Wayne Rooney was 16 when he played his first Premier League game for Everton.
Give those youngsters a chance.
We can’t afford to lose him, he needs meaningful minutes quickly, so let’s get him started! He and the rest of the academy graduates are our future, in footballing and financial terms!
Its good news about Earthy. I was also pleased to see Ezra Mayers on the bench Saturday
George Earthy isn’t far from breaking through, he was on par with Freddie Potts at the start of the season but has been injured while Potts has not. George Earthy needs to be given minutes….
