Further to my article on Saturday and a number of reports suggesting that West Ham had agreed personal terms with Brazilian striker Yuri Alberto, Claret and Hugh approached a Senior Source for an update today regarding the situation and can exclusively confirm the following:
“It is absolutely rubbish, the manager does not want him.”
This suggests that the club have identified other targets, and are keeping these names firmly under wraps.
There has also been widespread speculation linking West Ham with Dominic Calvert-Lewin who is available on a free transfer. However given his reported £100k a week salary and his decision to reject a new deal at Everton, the link is highly unlikely. The club have previously distanced itself from Calvert-Lewin due to his injury history and age profile – a decision many fans will find reassuring.
With the transfer window officially re-opening on Monday, patience will be essential for supporters. There is plenty of time to conclude both incoming and outgoing deals, and West Ham seemed committed to a measured approach.
The club has already turned down several offers for Luis Guilherme, underlining the thoughtful and strategic planning being carried out by manager Graham Potter and his back room staff.
Any new signings will need to fit Graham Potter’s playing philosophy.
C&H will continue to provide exclusive updates throughout the window.
