West Ham’s relegation rivals Tottenham Hotspur could soon appoint a top coach, according to football ITK Fabrizio Romano. Spurs hit panic stations yesterday as they looked to appoint their third manager of the season, with the announcement that Igor Tudor had left the club following a “mutual decision” to terminate his contract.
From a West Ham point of view, the news is somewhat disappointing given that Tudor had struggled to make any sort of difference in North London. The Hammers’ relegation survival chances certainly appeared to be enhanced by him remaining in the Tottenham hot seat. One of the favourites for the job is former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, but according to Romano, he has refused to move back to England until Spurs’ Premier League fate is decided.
De Zerbi stance could shift
Speaking on his daily update, Romano wrote: “De Zerbi remains Spurs’ first choice but will wait until the end of the season.” Which, of course, is code for: “I don’t want to manage a Championship club” — perfectly understandable. However, that stance appears to have softened overnight, with the Italian said to remain in talks with the Lewis family, who own Tottenham.
Romano this morning announced that talks are ongoing and that the former Marseille coach remains in discussions. “Tottenham are pushing, trying to get the green light from Roberto De Zerbi for immediate appointment. Talks continue.”
De Zerbi remains a top coach, and if Spurs can pull this one off, it’s likely to be bad news for West Ham’s hopes of overtaking the North Londoners.

Maybe I am missing something but looking at De Zerbi’s record, 13 years as a manager/coach, 8 clubs (7 for 2 seasons or less), 1 Italian Trophy and 1 Ukrainian Trophy but nothing in the last 5 years, does not put him anywhere close to the Guardiola, Klopp, Slot, Arteta bracket, in fact not even better than Nuno. That said, I would not put money on him not taking the job. For seven games and the right money, he will leave home for a few weeks.
In reality I don’t think we have anything to worry about as De Zerbi wont take the job until their future in the premier league is guaranteed….he wont want to up sticks and move back to the uk to take the job if they cant guarantee their survival – so it shouldn’t be a concern. And changing managers again this late in the season is more likely to cause issues rather than sort them out. It takes time to get your message across and change the way the players think and their style of play. Whoever takes the job, the risk is that by the time they have changed the players mindset and got them playing any kind of decent football it will be far too late. We just need to concentrate on ourselves and make sure we show the commitment, grit and determination we have managed to display in the games before Villa and we should be fine. COYI
Can’t see it why risk the reputation ?
I think he is a really good manager. He showed that at Brighton but on the plus side he is a bit of a sergeant major type manager with a bad temper and without wanting to sound like a mummy’s boy,, that isn’t always the best way to get a team who have lost the ability to win a game back into winning ways. I think Tudor whilst being an inferior manager was a similar personality and 7 games is a really short time to turn it around. I think he would be good manager for the start of the season, but their current predicament needs someone who can encourage and inspire them not
We just need to concentrate on ourselves
I still feel the best way to survive for west Ham is to get within two points of Leeds with the last game of the season against them. It is then solely down to the players and coach on that day to beat Leeds and stay up.
What Spurs do or not do is not our concern. We win our games and we stay up, its that simple.
Unless of course they win theirs.
It’s a terrible time and position to be in to be changing manager, whoever the incoming manager happens to be…
De Zerbi really worries me mate. I think if he can get it right at Spurs then they’ll flourish and stay up. Not good news for us.
Hoddle and/or Rednappe have become favourites.
Hoddle hasn’t managed for nearly 20 years is this desperation.
Jeeps Brooking had never managed but because of his nature and ability he nearly got us out of a far worse situation than either us or spurs are currently in. I would worry about a godless or Rednapp appointment as I feel they can inspire. But as others have said need to concentrate on what we do rather than worry about things we can’t control
