“Fan fury” as Hammers lose | Report describes ‘mutinous’ London Stadium

Image for “Fan fury” as Hammers lose | Report describes ‘mutinous’ London Stadium

Trying to be objective after yet another West Ham defeat is near impossible: Easy to type as a’ fan’ – full of emotion after witnessing another Hammers’ failure to win at home.

On a day when fan protests caught the headlines and Sullivan and Brady sat high up in the directors box with faces of stone, the irishexaminer.co.uk offered a slice of objectivity that has deserted me this afternoon, Their article pulls no punches: “Pressure mounts on Potter amid fan fury after Hammers lose to Palace” shouts the heading.

Worse is to follow: “Graham Potter prospects of keeping his job as West Ham manager are looking ever more bleak after Crystal Palace won 2-1 at a mutinous London Stadium..Angry supporters are demanding change off the pitch but everything stays much the same on it, namely West Ham’s susceptibility to corners, their tendency to roll over when the going gets tough at their unpopular stadium and their over-reliance on Jarrod Bowen.”..

Says it better than I can. The final nail in Potter’s West Ham career? Only Sullivan and Brady know the answer to that. Sad in someways, West Ham played better today than in any of the other defeats. But it is a results business. Potter’s reliance on toothless James Ward Prowse and Max Kilman- who was especially weak today – will cost him dear if the axe falls. Something needs to change, the Irons are now a club in deep crisis.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Sadly I’m beginning to think our club is being killed not only by Sullivan or Brady or even Potter but by its own fans.

65 years ago I started watching WH and have never moved. Many bad times and a few good but that’s the way with WH isn’t it. I must say that since winning Europe things have gone downhill bought on completely by Sully and the board. We have the disgraceful self opinionated statement after the ‘big’ meeting. Nothing will change until they sell up although hopefully we will have a better manager who can operate under Sully rules. Fortunately I cannot have too much longer to suffer being selfish.

  • mark wiggins says:

Potter out , Sullivan put it right now you fault anyway.

  • Steveo says:

Absolute diabolical decisions from potter. Kilman WP starting ridiculous. Like many others I have given up on them. Potter has got to go along with B@S which is not going to happen anytime shortly

  • Ex WHU fan says:

No longer a fan, and will never be a customer.
Brady, Sullivan and the rest will not get another penny out of me.
Wish the players, especially the academy lads all the best.

    • Mick says:

You’re not a fan and definitely not a supporter. Adios.

    • Richard F says:

If you’re jumping ship you never was a fan.
      As Mick said….Adios

Let me make some things abundantly clear to you boys.
If you think blindly devoting yourselves to:
A: a team with no desire or identity on the pitch
B: a manager out of his depth, tactically inept and ignorance of the talent available
C: an ownership who see you as customers providing a pension fund and an increase on their investment
You are not fans, you are stalkers.
Nothing about the club currently makes me proud. For the good of my mental health, I have decided not to be affected by it’s results or lack of.
I hope things change, top to bottom, but nothing looks likely too, even should it be relegated (again). Something which has happened multiple times during my many years as a fan, in the past there was always something positive to believe in.
Now, however much I would want the best for the fans, players and the people who do care. I WILL not continue to give my unrequited devotion to something which has no similarities to the club I once loved.

I really hate having to say this, but relegation which is beginning to look like a decent odds on bet at the moment, could well turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Before I go on, I am fully aware that there will be contributors to this site, who are far from backward in coming forward with their opinions, who will point out that this outcome will only lead to a multi-relegation spiral into nothingness, with no guarantee that we will ever be able to get ourselves back to the promised land. And worse still the current owners might limpet like still be at the helm, and they may be right, I don’t know. But what I do know, if this clown car in a minefield continues on its merry way much longer, this is exactly what is going to happen, whether we like it or not. So S&B, I beseech you, please sell up get out of our club and let someone else have a go.

Well the numbers speak for themselves 3000 protesters, er that makes it 55,000 appx that didn’t join the protests. I rest my case. Usual Hammers United overhype. I don’t suppose this will be published but I live in hope for the sake of balanced reporting.

  • Jimbo 2 says:

I was hoping to see he had been sacked by the time I got home.

Silly will try to save his skin by sacking Potter and getting in Nuno before the next appointment.

Again it’s the cheap option and can’t help but feel we would be looking our own Glasner rather than what’s available.

  • davo says:

Potter doesn’t learn from past mistakes! What the hell have they been doing all week in training as both goals were poor defending again? No one closing down opposition players and it’s pathetic! Potter took of the two bright sparks in the game Summerville and fernandes. And played ward prowse again even though he has no effect on any game he’s played this season and he’s too slow like soucek

  • John Ayris says:

Dear, dear, dear. There will be better times but not for a while yet I fear. We do not deserve this crock of and it is sad to see fans so deflated.

  • Andy Pearce says:

Yes the club is/has been badly run but the people that make excuses for Potter I cannot understand. There has been no sign of improvement and he has had 25 games. Most of our defenders have made mistakes but how many times can Kilman fail to do the basics before he takes his share of the blame and finally gets dropped by Potter. JWP brings nothing to the team but Potter insists on picking him week after week. I hate to say it but Pacqueta has been given 2 seasons of grace due to the debacle brought about by the FA but it is clear he is a luxury we cannot afford. Awful pass completion and falls to the floor and every opportunity, yet Potter keeps picking him. These are Potter’s decisions and he has to held to account (as well as BS)

  • Darkhorse says:

Another 3pts lost with Potter in charge. A loss against Everton and a hammering by Arsenal beckons , if Potter remains in charge.

  • Dave says:

Mavrapanos is a disaster every game, where the 40m Tobidos?
Where’s AWB, seriously we can’t defend zilch.
We buy a new goalkeeper because the other one isn’t up to it, who are we playing now? The goalkeeper who’s not up to it, the new goalkeeper thrown under the bus already…
    It’s a shambles, clueless club.

  • East end hammer says:

I am a supporter for over 50 years of West Ham the best club in London … Sullivan’s and Potter have won …. Sullivan’s incompetence and Potters JWP fixation, lack of youth … l JUST DONT CARE ANYMORE .
It hurts me to the core to type this but no more, it’s not enjoyable, it’s not emotional, it’s pitiful, it’s very very sad. They have succeeded in losing me as a fan.

  • Irish Hammer ⚒️ says:

We played better only because Palace are a weaker team than most of the others we have faced.
    Potter, Brady & Sullivan out.
No more excuses, no more time, no more hope.
I will stop posting, stop watching and I’m long past caring.
