Fan fury as Irons and Gooners draw the shortest straw

The Premier League’s Christmas fixture list is a disgrace and fans have every right to react with fury.

Arsenal and West Ham have pulled the shortest straw possible with the London derby between the two sides on Boxing Day, originally scheduled for 3pm, being moved to 8pm.

The game will be broadcast live on Amazon Prime and will almost certainly be impacted by public transport issues given it is a Bank Holiday along with possible strike action from the rail unions.

Football, of course. no longer belongs to the fans but to rub it in by making it as difficult as it gets to games on what was once one of the best days of the year for fans is a shocker.

Nor does it make a difference the game is at Arsenal rather than the London Stadium…this is a clear indication that the fans are immaterial in a sport which now lies firmly in the hands of the broadcasting companies.

The Mail quote John Williamson, a season-ticket holder at Arsenal since 1982 as saying:  ‘I feel that the lifeblood of football, the match-going supporters, are getting taken for a ride by the TV companies and the Premier League.

Fans are already struggling to travel with restricted public transport over the festive period, making it impossible for some.’

Premier League fans have expressed frustrations at the division's fixture scheduling, including Arsenal against West Ham being scheduled for 8pm on Boxing Day

‘How are people getting home at 10pm on a Boxing Day?’
