Fans can fall back in love with West Ham tomorrow

Image for Fans can fall back in love with West Ham tomorrow

The ‘lot’ of a West Ham fan is pretty onerous right now. David Moyes’ last half season, Lopetegui’s six months, Potter’s nine- and now Nuno’s four games – have all become a test of endurance rather than enjoyment. Being a supporter of the Hammers just isn’t fun.

Anecdotally, many appear to be turning their backs on the club which has been a backdrop to their life for decades.

Negative football, two wins this year and desperate conflict between the fans and Sullivan and Brady  has left the club with a toxic atmosphere which is too much to take, frankly: Often the temptation has been to switch off games halfway through and go do something more enjoyable like wallpaper the spare room or endure root canal without anaesthetic. Anything else, rather than endure more disappointment and vain hope.

West Ham under 21’s are a great ‘watch’ just now

However, West Ham fans should take the opportunity offered by tomorrow night’s SKY-televised under 21 fixture in the Vertu trophy against Swindon to fall back in love with their club: Increasingly, supporters are turning away from the dismal week-in-week-out failure of the seniors.

The pace, athleticism and enthusiasm of the Hammers youngsters makes for entertaining watching: Plus the chance of actually watching a West Ham win offers something of a treat for us embittered, bruised and battered fans!

“West Ham United U21s face their biggest test of the season so far on Tuesday evening as they travel west to face Swindon Town where a win would guarantee them a place in the Vertu Trophy knockout stages.”

It’s a 7pm kick off, join me on the sofa with a cuppa for a glimpse of the West Ham stars of the very near future: Kanté, Fearon, Landers, Ajala, Golambeckis – you never know, you might enjoy yourself.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

I have to compliment the board and academy leadership for developing a conveyor belt of talent.

Although there is a gulf between academy and first team we are seeing a lot of positivity through our youth teams thanks for posting this MT

Hopefully it will cut through and we can carry it into the first team 🙌

Moyes last six months was an absolute disaster wasn’t it , finishing 9th. Terrible wasn’t it. Perhaps if he wasn’t being forced out the club with the owners bringing in Steidten etc he might have stayed. Now he’s back in Everton where the fans love him and appreciate him so I doubt he’s too bothered with people trying to downplay how good he was for West Ham.

I agree with you John. i’m 66 and have been a ”HAMMER” and have been a hammer 4 58 years now. so iv seen all the greats play at Upton Park. our 3 ”World-Cup-Winners” you know who i’m talking about. and how the hell Billy Bonds never got an England call-up truly baffles me still 2day.anyway. i don’t see the why we don’t give the youngster a try-out. i mean what’s the point of spending money on some of the since they’ve been real youngsters just 2 see them bought by other premiership clubs and from them 2 go on 2 be amazing players just not 4 us, it’s crazy. but i will say in 4 games at least Nuno has blooded 3-4-or 5 youngsters since he’s been in charge. and 2 been honest i’m pretty sure we’ll get out of the relegation spot we’re in now Nuno has taken over as long as he gets the support and the funds from you know who in January to bring the players he wants and thinks that will get us going in the right direction up the table….. C O Y I’s.

    Cheers Paul.
