Felix Deal Puts Pressure on Duran Transfer

Aston Villa are coming under increasing pressure to sell Jhon Duran to West Ham in order to fund a major transfer move for Joao Felix. However, the Midlands club will have to make the Portuguese attacker their highest earner in an overall transfer package described as ‘eyewatering’.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Atletico Madrid forward Felix remains a dream target for Villa. With Moussa Diaby’s recent move to Al-Ittihad, securing an additional forward has become a top priority for Unai Emery’s recruitment team this summer transfer window.

Now that the Midlands club is set to compete in the Champions League, Emery is eager to bolster his squad with reinforcements capable of handling the demands of multiple competitions.

Felix is reported to be frustrated with how long the transfer is taking and would have preferred not to have returned to pre-season with Atleti.

This has brought the transfer of Duran to East London into focus, with the two clubs seemingly haggling over a difference of £2-3 million. As soon as the deal to take the Colombian to the London Stadium is completed, Felix can make his switch to Villa Park.

Clearly the kids have broken up for the summer and have too much time on their hands, get a ball and get over the park

If the rumours are true about Elye Wahi who we were after last year but wanted to stay in France then I would go for Wahi, a proven out and out goal scorer like a combination of Ian Wright and Kudus a real handful.

Duran is unproven, I don’t see what Felix brings to Villa other than a subs bench and am not sure they can pay his extortionate wages.

There’s a bit of a problem with your story Gonzo, Villa have pulled the plug on buying Felix. I was told this a couple of days ago from a reliable person however it’s now being reported in Portugal so it’ll soon be in our media. Of course all clubs need money but I’ve heard what your owner has offered 🤣 less than 20m and the rest in add-ons that some are ridiculous. The offer from the Saudis is the full 40m so you have zero chance now. I’m told that the club will sit down with Duran and give him the option of continuing at VP or go to the Saudis, Villa have informed WH not to contact them unless it’s the full asking price, since then silence from your club so I’d say that’s that.

Zero chance suits just fine in these parts, there’s other options that don’t come with the attitude. I wasn’t aware of the attitude to start, it seems we may well have dodged a bullet.

Agreed, you probably have in Duran’s case but you’re apparently looking at at soon to be German journeyman at 25m! I honestly hadn’t realised how poor you club is beingung run. Good luck next season, apart from the 2 obvious games 👍

In these days of PSR all clubs need to wheel and deal.

No club can afford an asset that just sits there when it’s not absolutely unavoidable.

No club can afford to pay top dollar for non top dollar propositions.

We got ourselves into an inadvisable position of needing to replace too many players at once. Other clubs see that as a vulnerability which it is so they hang on for top dollar.

These days spend big now means repent it later when your PSR books don’t balance and you get a points deduction. A points deduction could prevent a Euro qualification or relegate you, phenomenally expensive stuff. At best it’s likely to cost you league places and rob you of finishing position money.

We should never be in the position of needing to replace the number of players that we do, we made our own problem.

Villa need the money. Never forget that. They are in the Champions League but for new clubs that generally is far less money than the established teams get. They need to improve their squad to cope with both the PL and the CL and that means adding players like Felix on high wages which will be a problem if they don’t requalify for the CL in future seasons. A lot of the big 6 (or 7) had poor seasons last years. Betting on Villa having another great season while trying to balance the CL and the PL and those big 7 teams failing again is a big ask. They haven’t made a huge success of Duran in the PL. Why do they get such a big premium after one year?

    • Martin says:

      Thanks for that condescending reply.

      We honestly didn’t know this!!!!

      • Dudley Tyler says:

What’s condescending about it? Your post on how the Felix and Duran deals are not connected is nonsense. All clubs have a budget to keep within. To buy the players they want most need to sell, as Villa do (financially they are in a worse situation than West Ham). If they don’t sell Duran (or someone else) they probably cannot do Felix

  • Lance Marsh says:

Duran is not as much of a gamble as Fullkrug would be. Duran will appreciate in value. He is an investment. But West Ham are generally too silly to spot an investment.

  • B says:

West Ham have time and options on their side.
Transfer windows are a gig game of poker, hold ’em or fold em!
Tim S has done pretty well so far, he will eventually get one wrong in the transfer market, they all do, but let him do his job.

IMHO, Duran at £30mil. + is a very expensive gamble.

If West Ham go into the meat & bones of the season with just: Duran, Antonio & Ings … ?

  • Kevlar says:

Just pay the £2_3m and sign Duran we’ve been chasing him all transfer window COYI

    • Kip says:

Yep infuriating isn’t it bud 👍..
If we sell a player it goes through in literally a day 🤣buying someone is like a eclipse 🤣

  • Martin says:

The Felix and Duran deals are not related. If Duran goes he gets replaced by another striker. For that reason Villa won’t do any Duran deal last minute either. Of course they would prefer to sell outside the Premier League. Best for West Ham to move on. He’s not worth the trouble.

  • Pat says:

I have a feeling this transfer will happen only after the opening game of the season is done and dusted…..Villa will drop the asking price a little then because they do not have to worry about the player biting them on the bum first chance he had.

  • Ellis says:

Just pay the money and get the player you want

    • Andy Stone says:

      Morning Doug
Seriously, getting in quickly on another club’s website so early in the morning. Try yoga or maybe meditation it could be life changing for you.
