West Ham have gone from the ridiculous to the sublime in the space of a month — and now the wider footballing world is finally taking notice.

In a rare bit of Premier League respect for the Hammers, Mateus Fernandes has been nominated for Goal of the Month, while Crysencio Summerville is among the final six shortlisted for Player of the Month. It’s about time our lads got the plaudits.

Fernandes’ thunderbolt against Sunderland was the cherry on top of a much improved January. The 21-year-old midfielder stepped up in the absence of Lucas Paquetá and made himself undroppable in West Ham’s midfield.

His goal — a rifled 25-yarder into the top corner after starting and then finishing the move — by playing a delicious pass to Summerville from a deep position. Nuno Espirito Santo celebrates Fernandes goal

Hammers Finally Have Something to Cheer About

And let’s not forget Summerville, whose explosive pace and direct running have been supplemented by finding the net regularly as the Hammers notched back to back victories.

Fernandes is recognised alongside JoĂŁo Palhinha, Manchester United’s Matheus Cunha, Patrick Dorgu, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Kostoulas, AFC Bournemouth forward Junior Kroupi, Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed and Ollie Watkins.

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.
