West Ham have gone from the ridiculous to the sublime in the space of a month â and now the wider footballing world is finally taking notice.
In a rare bit of Premier League respect for the Hammers, Mateus Fernandes has been nominated for Goal of the Month, while Crysencio Summerville is among the final six shortlisted for Player of the Month. Itâs about time our lads got the plaudits.
Fernandesâ thunderbolt against Sunderland was the cherry on top of a much improved January. The 21-year-old midfielder stepped up in the absence of Lucas PaquetĂĄ and made himself undroppable in West Hamâs midfield.
His goal â a rifled 25-yarder into the top corner after starting and then finishing the move â by playing a delicious pass to Summerville from a deep position.

Hammers Finally Have Something to Cheer About
And letâs not forget Summerville, whose explosive pace and direct running have been supplemented by finding the net regularly as the Hammers notched back to back victories.
Fernandes is recognised alongside JoĂŁo Palhinha, Manchester Unitedâs Matheus Cunha, Patrick Dorgu, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Kostoulas, AFC Bournemouth forward Junior Kroupi, Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed and Ollie Watkins.
