FIFA rubber stamp Rice switch

The registration of Declan Rice as an England player has reportedly been completed by FIFA.

The game’s ruling body has now approved the paperwork for the Hammers star to switch his international allegiance from Ireland to England.

Rice played three times for Ireland, but only in friendlies rather than competitive games which allows for the nationality switch.

FIFA told The Associated Press on Tuesday that “the change of association has been approved.

England play Czech Republic and Montenego in late March with Declan Rice expected to announced in the squad for his first call up.

Declan yesterday said he was unsure how soon or otherwise the process would be completed ahead of the the PA announcing the news earlier today.

There are of course no givens but it seems highly likely that Declan will certainly be included in Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate’s squad with Ian Wright the latest pundit to name him as a player who should start for England.

An international call-up would cap an magnificent season for the 20 year old who has already won a top award as the best young player in the country and is a front runner for the Hammer of the Year award.
