With the West Ham United side mired in a relegation battle for most of the season – the Hammers have been in or around the relegation zone since November – the fall out for careers as well as for the club is immense.
England’s Jarrod Bowen will have one eye on any leaked news of Tomas Tuchel’s international squad whilst at the same time doing his utmost to keep his Hammers side in the Premier League. However for one West Ham first team squad member there’s impending news of a failure to make his own international squad for the competition which starts next month.
Having been usurped by Mads Hermansen for the starting position in goal for West Ham, Alphonse Areola is about to learn bad news according to sportwitness.co.uk:
“Le Parisien report that the West Ham goalkeeper will not be selected as the third goalkeeper in the squad. Instead that will go to Robin Risser. It is his lack of playing time in recent months that has swayed Deschamps’ thinking though. Areola hasn’t played for West Ham since January 31st and that has ‘taken its toll’ on the French team, who have held ‘long deliberations’ about the matter.”
Areola’s lack of ball skills cost him his place in the West Ham line up as Hermansen’s superior distribution – despite some shaky moments- appears to have convinced Nuno to drop the Frenchman.

One of West Ham’s highest paid players, the rumour mill is rife that the Hammers will seek to offload Areola, irrespective of which division they’re playing in next season, during the summer window.
£120,000 a week for the 33 year old (over six million pounds a year) is seen, quite rightly, as extortionate: Whether a buyer can be found for Areola who has two years remaining on his Hammers contract remains to be seen.
Championship will half his wages making it easier to move him on.
Unless the club put in a clause in his contract stating wages will be halfed if we go down then he will still be on £120,000 a week.
