Fiorentina get near perfect end to their season

The Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano is aware ‘errors make the difference’

Fiorentina enjoyed the near perfect end to their season last night when beating Sassulo 1-3 in the final game before they take on West Ham in the Conference Final next week.

However, it meant that the club finished eighth in Serie A despite two Sassulo sending offs in the last 10 minutes and the goals from Mendola Cabril, Saponora and Gonzalez.

That in turn means they have to win the final – like ourselves – to qualify for the Europa League next season making the match a titanic affair.

Meanwhile Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano has been discussing the match and declares that ‘errors make the difference’ in Finals and urges his players to focus on themselves rather than West Ham.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia on Thursday during a media day organised by UEFA at the Stadio Franchi he said: “We’ve had a great season, and we deserved the chance to play for this trophy, we are aware of our strength but we know that every error makes the difference in a Final.

“Every detail matters and we want to give joy to our fans.”

When asked his thoughts about West Ham, Italiano replied: “They haven’t done well in the league, but they have a very competitive team with top-class players and a competent coach. We must focus on ourselves and be free in our minds.”

The Tuscans will face Sassulo in the last Serie A game of the season on Friday night who have been been waiting for their first major trophy since 2001 when they won the Italian Supercup and the Coppa Italia.

They lost the Coppa Italia Final to Inter Milan on May 24 at the Stadio Olimpico.
