First mid-season friendly confirmed

West Ham will play Cambridge United in a mid-season friendly on Tuesday, December 6th.

The Hammers will take on the League One side as they look to keep their fitness levels up while the World Cup continues in Qatar.

There will be a number of players at the club who either play for nations who have failed to qualify for the tournament or who have not been picked for their respective nation.

Mikey Antonio, for example, will not be going with Jamaica, while Gianluca Scamacca will stay behind because Italy failed to qualify for the tournament.

A statement on the club’s official website has confirmed that the Irons will play Cambridge in a testimonial for long-serving U’s captain Greg Taylor, who is an Irons fan.

The two clubs haven’t played each other in a competitive game since 1993, when the Irons won 2-0 at the Boleyn Ground to secure promotion to the Premier League.
