West Ham United are shaking things up in the transfer market with the signing of Brazilian centre-back Fabricio Bruno. The move signals a new era under Technical Director Tim Steidten, but also comes with some interesting wrinkles.
Gone are the days of departed manager David Moyes‘ deliberation. Under Steidten, West Ham are acting swiftly to address their squad needs. Bruno is the first piece of this ambitious transfer window puzzle.
The 28-year-old defender has agreed to a transfer from Flamengo for a reported £12.8 million. Bruno is known for his physical presence, tackling ability, and passing skills. However, his lack of experience in European leagues raises some concerns.
In an unorthodox move, Bruno will remain with Flamengo for a short period to compete in upcoming Copa do Brasil and Copa Libertadores matches. This means he will only join West Ham after these fixtures, raising concerns about potential injuries before he officially signs.
An injury to Bruno before joining the club would be a significant blow. Additionally, his age and lack of European experience make him a bit of an unknown quantity in the Premier League.
Despite the risks, it’s possible West Ham had to concede Bruno’s participation in these matches to secure the transfer. His recent performance for Flamengo is a positive sign, suggesting he is fit and ready to contribute.
This transfer window marks a clear shift for West Ham. The club is acting decisively under Steidten, and Bruno’s arrival is the first step in their squad rebuild. While Bruno’s strengths are promising, his lack of Premier League experience adds an element of risk to this bold move. Only time will tell if it pays off for the Hammers.
He will get injured … and another croc we got … wait and see …
Here we go more negativity you moan we don’t make early signings when we do its all what the downsides are you moan about the back four are not good enough we start to sort it more negativity give it a rest leave out the words however and but just for once
A West Ham legend is Ogbonna. Why all these massively negative comments . What a servant and what a man. Top player for us and that header against Liverpool was the day my sons really became hammer fans – I will always remember him for that . Alas time waits for no man – thank u Angelo
Good start, usually we wait until season starts before we buy anyone.
Perhaps this will help in signing of Wesley.
I think Ogbonna and Zouma knew their time was up,it’s Moyes who didn’t.
In their prime they were good for west ham
Thank you Mr Steiden, breath of fresh air, at last! Keep spending Sullivan’s dough to get our team top 5 material.

I being frank here Bruno will be a, knockout in the Premier league as anything will be an upgrade on stadtler and waldorf, ie zouma and ogbonna the two old muppets.
Angelo Ogbonna is, and never has been, a muppet. Age may have caught up with him but he has always been a fine servant of West Ham and deserves respect.

Steidten wouldn’t be interested in him if he didn’t believe he would do well in the premier league I feel more confident in his ability than moyes ever had but we will find out soon enough if he’s got it right
Don’t know to much about Bruno but we will have to trust Steidten’s judgement on the player. Let’s hope he has a turn of pace about him which we desperately need as Zouma and Oggy sadly have not got which was our downfall in many games this season. Most of the top sides have pace in defensive positions which allows them top play with a high line and not have two holding midfield players to cover like we’ve had to otherwise we would have got ripped a new one in many games
Simon, we really need to be clearer about why foreign players succeed or fail in the Premier League. Sometimes they are not good enough, but sometimes the problem is that the club does not help enough with the culture shock. A Brazilian player, for example, needs to adapt to “strange” food, lousy weather, peculiar regional English accents and different social rules.
As this April article from the Sporting Ferret says:
“Performances on the pitch can be marred by external factors, for instance if a player is struggling to adapt to the cultural differences of a country or doesn’t yet speak the language. Adapting to the Premier League is no easy feat, with the whole world watching, proving that the integration is as much a psychological transition, as it is physical.”
He can’t be any worse to what we currently have in defence! Bring it on, can only be an improvement. ⚒️☘️
Fortune favours the brave, ?
Can he play left wing too ?
Our current left wing will be disappearing soon.
Bet on it
Can’t be any worse than Zuma he can’t even run or mark shocking I’m 60 and I’m faster than zuma
Lol,he has to skip before he trots, absolute joke, only happens at west ham.
So true 👍
If we keep him, our next signing should be a Zouma frame.
Good or bad at least it’s a decisive move.
Let’s hope it’s set the pace for other incoming players.
Well at least it’s not a last minute will it or will it not happen thing is a refreshing change.
