Craig Dawson is reportedly in the frame to play for England at the rearranged Euro 2020 tournament at the end of the season!
The Hammers warrior has been nothing short of sensational since his move from Watford and is inevitably going to become an Iron at the end of the campaign.
The Athletic reports that Gareth Southgate is well aware of Dawson’s form and could include him in his squad for the Euros.
Indeed, there probably isn’t a more in-form defender in the country at this stage of the season!
You could make an argument for Ruben Dias and John Stones at Manchester City but they have shipped six goals in four games, compared to the Hammers conceding just three!
And if things go well, the Irons could have no fewer than five players in Southgate’s squad.
Declan Rice is a shoo-in, obviously, and he could be joined by Dawson.
Along with those two, there’s Aaron Cresswell, who is a brilliant left-back and could dislodge Ben Chilwell, whose form has been up and down at Chelsea.
Add the rejuvenated Jesse Lingard, a brilliant playmaker whom Southgate knows well, given his inclusion in his 2018 World Cup squad, and potentially Michail Antonio and you’ve got a lovely quintet.
Antonio, of course, has his international future up in the air amid reports he could declare for Jamaica but if he scores the goals to power the Hammers to a top-four finish, few would argue with him being selected for England.
With the tournament taking place largely in England, and potential echoes of 1966 in the squad if Southgate does raid the Hammers’ squad, the Three Lions could be on their way to glory!
