West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta is understood to be a transfer target for Flamengo; however, reports that the Brazilian club is close to agreeing on a deal for the player are premature.
There have been numerous news reports stating that Flamengo has dispatched delegates to travel to the UK to secure the permanent transfer of Paqueta. This contradicts what C&H were told this morning by a top West Ham source.
If anything, the club was surprised to hear that an old news story had resurfaced with the amount of vigour attached to the most recent reports.
Flamengo did indeed approach West Ham last season with a view to taking the Brazilian midfielder on loan, but that is the last the club heard of it.
New Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui has spoken of Paqueta having a family in Brazil and one in England and was at pains to stress the player was part of his plans. Director of Football Tim Steidten even went as far as to say that he had visited West Ham’s record signing at his home during a scouting trip to Brazil.
Much has been written over the past few hours about Flamengo’s intention to sign Paqueta; however, all of the speculation appears to have been driven by the Brazilian club’s side.
Paqueta is still awaiting the FA to conclude its investigation into betting irregularities surrounding him.
If Paqueta were “loaned” to Flamengo, Flamengo’s payment might in part include Fabrizio Bruno (absorbing the extra in his monthly salary that Bruno asked for) who Steidten seemed to rate highly and securing another central defender. Reasons for Paqueta, might include escaping the pressure on him in Europe while the accusation lasts. The latter part of last season, Paqueta’s motivation here seemed to have reached a low point.
I’d sell him overrated anyway
Is it the same c an h that Sullivan owns
“Director of Football Tim Steidten even went as far as to say that he had visited West Ham’s record signing at his home during a scouting trip to Brazil.”
Are you sure you’re not getting confused with Steidten saying he visited the home of our new signing Luis Guilherme?
Numerous news reports? From where? I haven’t seen any.
Fabrizio Romano broke it on his FB page. About to become ‘old’ news with news of DEAL AGREEMENT coming shortly on C and H !!
If we get an offer of £20/£30m he will leave 💯. I think he will be found guilty and Flamengo will rip up his contract if found guilty and sue him for the transfer fee paid. IF we keep him a) where is his head at? and b) we lose out on any potential transfer fee.if he gets a ban. This is a damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
How does a club like Flamengo afford a player like Paqueta either on loan or to buy…
They’d be hard pressed to afford a loan fee that even for Benrahma was over £5M.
They could not afford a transfer fee.
They could not afford £130’000 a week wages.
The story is obvious claptrap.
It’s more clickbait, John
West Ham had a revenue of 275M in 2022/23 season. Flamengo had revenue of 245M on a real bad season in respect to league and cup performance. So obviously it’s not impossible. Not to mention that West Ham couldn’t bring one of Flamengo’s defender, Fabricio Bruno, earlier this year. However, Flamengo is planning on spending 400M over the few years on building a brand new stadium, so a big transfer like that is unlikely.
