Fond farewell on cards for wholehearted Hammer

Snoddy’s departure from the Irons is currently in the balance with Sam Allardyce apparently keen to take him to West Brom.

I have never hidden my admiration for the player who has given everything for this club since he brought back from an ill informed loan move to the Villa under Slaven Bilic.

That he should have returned to the club and battled his way  to scoring 11 goals in all competitions from 74 games  is a major achievement in my book.

He  suffered initially by comparison with Dimitri Payet whom he followed into the club presumably as a set piece expert.

Snoddy cost around £10 million but after a season at Villa came back and has shown nothing but total commitment and dedication to this club

Word is of course that his legs have gone and that David Moyes has only given him five minutes of action this term seems to confirm the manager’s possible view.

It’s interesting therefore – should it go ahead – that Sam Allardyce thinks otherwise and reckons the 33 year old may be able to help the Baggies surprise a few by beating the drop.

Should he leave the Hammers I shall be sad to see a real trier go and these are thanks in advance for his tremendous and whole hearted efforts on this club’s behalf.

  1. Well if he is going then he can hold his head high. He gave total effort every game, was applauded every time he came to take a corner, his attitude was great. Better scoring ratio than Haller as well as being Mr Assist. Hope this doesn’t bite us – going to Sam at WBA!!

  2. Good luck to Snoddy- always gives his all and what you really have to admire about him is that he loves playing and is never satisfied when he is not in the team. He wants to contribute rather than sitting on the bench and taking the money. He hated not being in the team under Bilic and still has a real desire to play now. Hope it goes well for him if he leaves.

  3. Big mistake if we let him go. Wholehearted influence in the dressing room. Surely he gives us the 20 minutes after Bowen comes off on 70. He’s just the kind of character we need. Certainly wouldn’t sell him to BFS for a few quid. False economy.

  4. A decision we might live to regret when we play the Baggies.

  5. I agree has been superb for us and I wish him well.

  6. Totally agree Hugh. Worked hard, gave his all, acted as a leader on and off the pitch and was a decent player who knows how to deliver from a set piece. How he came back from Villa and basically shoved two fingers up to Sullivan and Brady with his performances will always have my admiration.

  7. Wish him well, whatever he does. Got a pair of his boots at home, and he took the time to have a chat with the wife on Instagram when we received them (and still does occasionally!) . Let’s not forget the work he did with the shirt sales for Isla’s find as well.

  8. A solid Premier League player. Can’t imagine he’ll help keep the Baggies up, probably one for the Championship after their relegation.

A brilliant attitude, great in the dressing room supposedly and the quintessential professional. Sad to see him go, especially to a horridly mediocre team, he deserves a better move.

  9. Mistake to let him go because he will score against us and put a big smile on the hippos face, guaranteed.

  10. Hugh I seem to share your views again Snods gave his all every time he put the shirt on for us. He can be proud of his efforts he gave to the club on and off the field. It was a shame he got loaned out to villa by Slavan and not given a fair crack to prove his worth. Our loss was there gain as he was excellent for them. I wish him all the best for the future and say thanks Snods for helping the club to where we are today

  11. Big mistake. If Rice or Soucek get injured he’d be my first thought to replace one. Also a nailed-on starter for a cup match. He’s a swiss army knife, useful in several areas and always gives 100%. I hope he stays.
