Fonte apologises over Van Dijk £75m Liverpool jibe

|

Fonte2Jose Fonte has upset Southampton fans on social media over his comments over Virgil van Dijk £75m move to Liverpool. The 26-year-old Dutchman who played alongside Fonte has agreed to join Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“Delighted and honoured to have agreed to become a Liverpool FC player,” Van Dijk wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of him with a Liverpool shirt.”Today is a proud day for me and my family as I join one of the biggest clubs in world football.”

Fonte was one of the first to reply to his former team mate saying “Pleased for you!!! Good luck Brother!!! Another one Ryan Bertrand” with a smiley winky face.

This upset Saints fans one of which wrote back “Jose Fonte you monumental idiot. It would be a tad funny if you weren’t a 5th choice centre back at West Ham with an owner who’s son begged his dad not to sign you. Lost any respect for you”

Fonte later posted an apology saying “No disrespect towards Saints whatsoever made on VVD picture! Only saying that another player (6th) moves to Liverpool which was something Bertrand and myself used to joke about! Apologies if anyone got upset!”
