Forest keeper deal begs Hammers Areola question!

|

By Hughie Southon

Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal with Manchester United to sign Dean Henderson on loan for the 2022/23 season.

Why do we mention that here?

Only because City Ground manager Steve Cooper has moved quickly whilst we are still negotiating to sign a buy a guy who has been with us for over a season – Alphonse Areola.

Claretandhugh was told this afternoon that a deal is close but many felt this is a deal which could and maybe should have been tied up once the season ended.

Henderson only played a handful of games for the United first team last season but was an excellent loan signing in the Sheffield United first season in the PL.

The Forest boss showed himself to be a dab hand with loan signings and this looks another but it does beg the question as to why the Areola deal is taking so long.

However, a Hammers source told us this afternoon that a deal was now close to sign the French stopper.

Forest don’t penny pinch like Scrooge !

It’s simple they are borrowing so no agent hassle and we are buying so maximum agent hassle!

Sorry, Hugh. It really isn’t clear to me why you’ve run a story on Henderson going to Forest on loan! Particularly if “Dithering Dave”, as he’s routinely referred to in the comments below many of the articles you run these days, is so close to getting Areola on board. Less obvious still if we remember another of the stories that you ran a few short days ago which told us that Areola was going away on holiday.

    • The point of the story is clear why has it taken so long to do it when qwe have had him for a season and a bit. One might have thought it would have been done within a week of the season ending maybe/ I know you are a Moyes man ljd but I personally don’t understand why he takes so long if his mind is made up. The season stats earlier and one would think this is an easy one to get done.

With his wages being the main stumbling block, not wanting to break their wage structure and also others trying to hijack and disrupt the deal – PSG have stated they are willing to pay the difference in his wages on the one year he has remaining on his current contract with them. So I’m sure the fact they have managed to get PSG to subside his wages for the 22/23 season might have something to do with it, similar to what they did with Kurt Zouma. And seeing as they have till the end of the month to do the deal then I don’t understand why you are stating that “many” think the deal should have been done already. What difference does it make if they get the best deal for West Ham. Taking time to get a better deal for us is hardly dithering, and considering our history of slap dash deals whats so wrong with some creative negotiating and due diligence. As long as the deals done then whats the worry? I’m happy with David Moyes and the job he is doing, but I’m not a Moyes man, I’m a West Ham man, and criticizing them for a permanent deal taking a little longer is definitely not a story worth printing if you are going praise another managers actions when comparing it to a fairly simple loan deal.

        • Acceptable comment of course. We all have different points of view. I and others may think if Moyes likes him as much as we understand then the due diligence has surely been done over a period of 9 months or more and when there ae so many others to be done this deal could have been got out of the way a lot quicker. That’s hardly a little longer and yes I believe when ther season is bounding on us these are thoughts worth sharing and are worth printing 🙂

The due diligence I’m talking about is in relation to his current contract and the one he is about to sign, not how long he has been with us. I can appreciate that everyone has their own point of view and are entitled to there opinion. However most people aren’t aware of the inside details of a lot of transfer deals and are expressing opinions and comments based on speculation and paper and website gossip, instead of fact. The buyout clause only became active when the transfer window opened, which is when the negotiations began proper. With that being the case, and also getting PSG to agree to pay a lump sum to Areola to cover the difference in next year’s wages I’m not sure how much quicker you wanted the deal done. As I stated before, as long as the deal is completed and it’s the best deal for us as a club I don’t see any issue. However, now that the recruitment process has been completely over hauled and brought up to date, and the leaks about major transfers have become a lot less widespread and detailed, maybe your inside information isn’t as accurate as days gone by when the 2 David’s were doing all the deals and “discreetly” telling their friends about them which was almost like shouting it from the rooftops. I have absolutely no problem with G S or B and the way they have managed to move our club forward…..but the reality is that now recruitment is being done properly and with cards close to the chest, we are more likely to get the deals done that we need, rather than having to settle for some of the mediocre or worse signings of the past.

            • Or maybe it is as accurate as in days gone by and that your assumption of where our info comes from is incorrect however difficult that may be for you to accept. You have missed points and offered derogatory views on the websites you clearly like to read. This is the sort of news site of which you may disapprove so why take too much notice. Thanks for your thoughts which are interesting in part and misinformed in others. Too busy to become involved in this lengthy and assumptive discussion any further however.

Aren’t PSG obliged to pay wages till the end of the month?
Wouldn’t surprise me that we’ve tried to save money coz of that.
