Forest Snub Shows Why West Ham Striker Remains in Shop Window

Three days ago, I wrote a piece suggesting West Ham forward Niclas Fullkrug is available for transfer this summer—and it seemed to come as something of a surprise.

The big German striker has looked a decent option for the Hammers since returning from injury, and the idea that he could be sold felt unlikely.

Not only does Fullkrug offer a clear goal threat and the much-needed focal point to West Ham’s struggling attack, but his inclusion also allows Jarrod Bowen to be deployed in his favoured position.

However, as I mentioned earlier this week, the 32-year-old was far from happy about being dropped from the team that beat Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Sources—who shall remain nameless—told me to keep a close eye on the line-up for the match against Nottingham Forest and strongly hinted that Fullkrug would not be involved.

Ordinarily, I wouldn’t place too much emphasis on a player missing a couple of games. But when this is aligned with stories that Fullkrug is available for sale, the rumours become harder to discount.

There’s a subtext suggesting the German international would be welcome to stay—if he’s happy to be a squad player. However, that’s not a role the club realistically expect Fullkrug to accept.

Therefore, it’s looking increasingly likely that he could be another player deemed surplus to requirements. And that’s a massive shame—because he’s been one of the few players to display any leadership in what has been a shocking season.

Hold on one second, was t this blog telling us last week that Fullkrug is seen as an impact sub (as he was in Germany)?

And now you are stirring something up because, well, he was used as an impact sub against Forest.

More clickbait nonsense. You need to go back to quality posts over quantity as you’re posting contradictory posts after another these days.

Makes sense to me. If he is for sale why risk the injury prone player.would play 20 minutes and be out for 4 months get rid of him now and wrap him in cotton wool till june

Yes it may be true that Fullkrug will only stay as the number one striker. But with so many players leaving these days largely for free, funds will needed for their replacements (if only partially). Add to that the cost of partially replacing the midfield. There will not be too much left for a top striker. And strikers that are good enough and who can hit the ground running have been difficult to find and attract for West Ham.

Proving once again a week is a long time in sports. Potter was praised for his different formation against Man U but is reviled when trying something similar against Notts Forest. I am mystified as to his thinking at times, but criticizing him one week after praising him one week before seems trivial.

Potter hardly ever starts Fullkrug and your “source” is probably as reliable as a C&H “Exclusive” My guess is the dwarf’s pet 👉 Sean

Another bore fest from Potter today.

Relegation is a strong possibility next season. Sullivan can’t be trusted in the transfer market or to appoint a replacement for Potter come December/ January.

Might even put my money where my mouth is on us to go down. I won’t be paying to go to watch us play garbage football after this season!

Old fashioned meddling owners with obsolete concepts of how to run a football club are a recipe for relegation . Unfortunately Sullivan won’t sack the incompetent Potter with the impotent tactics in order to avoid paying a compensation package . Many of the expensively assembled Westham squad have minimal value due to poor form , old age and legal issues and so raising funds for a squad overhaul will be very difficult . In addition to these problems the question is which quality players would want to come to such a sh1t show ? Answer ; none .

Soon as Potter gets some players that suit his style of passing football we should do ok. I like Fullkrugs link up play and looks a threat when he gets on the pitch. Be a shame if he goes but it was no secret he left Dortmund because he heard there was a new striker coming in and he wanted to be the main man. So same could happen again and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him winging his way back to Germany. Unless he considers he’s now old and injury prone enough to play second fiddle off the bench. Who knows, could extend his career that way.

Hi gonzo. Would anyone be surprised if the only players from starting 11 we will see next season are AWB (hopefully) kilman Ward prowse soucek Bowen (hopefully) areola? Many bench players will also leave and when we look at it logically we have a mountain to climb this summer. When we add in David Sullivan playing a major role in recruitment I think may struggle somewhat!

I’m not sure I care too much who goes or stays to be honest.
Club is a total mess and unless there are changes at the very top, we are doomed.
Jarrod must be getting cheesed off playing with this bunch of muppets, and a player of his quality surely at some point would like to challenge regularly for trophies.
Thank Christ it’s end of the season…..

  • Andy Stone says:

As far as I’m concerned Potter is surplus to retirement and should go before the summer.
