West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui has put transfer speculation on the back burner ahead of tonight’s late kick-off against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Spaniard spoke ahead of the friendly game which has seen the Hammers travel to Florida to face his former club today and Crystal Palace next week.
It’s clear that Lopetegui has been fully involved and updated during the past 48 hours of intense transfer activity, but for now, he wants both himself and Tim Steidten to concentrate on the current players.
“Tim [Steidten] is here with us, and, of course, we talk all the time every day, but we have to focus on the players who are here as they are the most important players now,” said the Irons’ coach.
“Of course, we’re going to need new players and I know the Club and Tim are working hard to buy the players we need to come as soon as possible to start the season, but it’s about the players who are here with us and putting the focus on these players because we are working with them.
More players are going to arrive in the next few days, and three of them arrived on Monday — Tomas, Antonio, and Vladi. So, step by step, we will have more players to work in the best way for the start of the season, for sure.”
This whole transfer business is really frustrating.
I’m hoping that we’ll get the business done soon so the new players can bed in and get with Loppy’s program.
We need a decent squad to compete, even with less games than last season, European placing needs to be the goal.
Trust that Tim can get it done COYI!
