Former Chelsea boss eyes Hammers defender

Former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is this morning reported as being ready to launch talks for Hammers central defender Isssa Diop.

Italian outlet Citta Celeste claims claims the possible move from the Lazio boss comes after much discussion about the player’s future over recent days.

Websites are always keen to link players to clubs once the speculation starts which actually makes the report dubious and there has also been talk of Paris St Germain and Newcastle being keen on the central defender.

And with Nayef Aguerd expected to make the switch from Rennes to West Ham in the near future Diop appears to be available although nothing is absolutely clear in David Moyes’ world.

Diop is currently arguably fourth choice centre-back at the London Stadium behind Kurt Zouma and Craig Dawson whilst Angelo Ogbonna has spent the majority of the season side lined with a long-term knee injury.

Aguerd’s arrival would make his hopes of more game time even more unlikely although his likely destination could be anywhere as things stand.

Sarri will be looking to strengthen his side after guiding Lazio to fifth last season and could be attracted by a fee of around £15 million,
