Former Hammer available for free

The transfer window may have closed but former Hammer Carlos Tevez is available for free. In June, the 37-year-old announced he was leaving Boca Juniors.

In a press conference, the veteran said he was “physically fit to continue but not mentally” and that he can continue to play “at the age of 42, but not in Boca Juniors”.

Another free agent is Daniel Sturridge. The former Liverpool and Chelsea forward’s career has nosedived over the past few years since leaving the Merseyside outfit in 2019. In his pomp, however, he scored 24 goals in 33 appearances for the Reds in the 2013/14 season but much of his career has been blighted by injuries.

After signing for Turkish side Trabzonspor in August 2019 on a three-year deal, the ex-England striker showed signs of promise, scoring seven goals in 16 games.

However, in March 2020 he was released from the club after having his contract mutually terminated. He also received a four-month worldwide ban for breaching betting rules and an appeal board also fined him £150,000. Now 32, Sturridge has issued a come-and-get-me plea, of sorts, to potential suitors. He wrote on Twitter: “Year 32. More motivated than I’ve ever been in my life. Older, wiser, and fit as a fiddle.”

Another name is Franck Ribery who is 38 years of age.

The Frenchman tends to drift more in field than he did in his winger days, especially in his pomp at Bayern Munich, but he showed he still has it over the past two years at Fiorentina. He played 51 times for the Italian outfit and scored five goals to boot. Ribery is not as fleet of foot as he was in years gone by but he has a great deal of experience, footballing street-smarts, and more.

Of course, Moyes would be made to sign of any of these veteran players but there are younger free agents who can play up front.
